BAMP Project presents Cat Empire

BAMP Project presents The Cat Empire performing live in Honolulu at The Republik Saturday, April 25th, 2015 with Special Guest Current Swell. Tickets are on sale NOW at the locations listed below. This event is open to all ages accompanied by an adult.

The Cat Empire is an Australian ska and jazz band that produces music that is a fusion of jazz, ska, funk and rock with heavy Latin influences. Their music is multi-genre, always changing, and always explores the boundaries of their mutable and uncertain identity. Since their formation, the band has played many notable gigs including the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, the Melbourne Grand Prix Event, and even shared the stage with KISS. Developing a large and growing following over the years, the band has toured Asia, America, and Europe and appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, as well as the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

For over a decade, The Cat Empire have carved themselves out a unique place in the musical firmament, as a band with no guitars, with no easily definable style, but a band that can step onto any stage in the world and make the crowd move. Steal the Light, the band's most recent album and their fifth studio album to date, received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The band's vocalist and trumpeter Harry Angus described the album as 'as return to our original aesthetic.' Continuing to utilize the band's roots in jazz, The Cat Empire's discography creates the best soundtrack for dancing and feeling good.

BAMP Project presents Rebelution

BAMP Project presents Rebelution live in Honolulu at The Republik Wednesday, April 15th and Thursday, April 16th, 2015. Tickets on sale NOW. This event is open to all ages accompanied by an adult.

The seeds of Rebellion germinated in Santa Barbara’s college town of Isla Vista in 2004. A student named Marley D. Williams had recently switched from baseball to bass guitar when, walking to choir practice one night, he heard strains of roots-reggae coming through a door. The fellow reggae enthusiast turned out to be Rachmany, a devotee of roots-reggae and dancehall, and especially the music of Don Carlos and Black Uluru.

The nucleus of a new and innovative “California Reggae” band got rock-solid when Marley heard percussionist and drummer Wesley Finley’s impressive solos on a big African drum in a World Music class. At the same time, the bassist had befriended a local band featuring keyboardist Rory Carey, who soon became another cornerstone of the budding Rebelution.

“Too blessed to be stressed,” is one of many key song lyrics from Rebelution’s new album Count Me In. This is their fourth full-length release on its own label 87 Music, and partnering for the first time with Easy Star Records, makes its tenth year together. Count Me In, released on June 10th, 2014, debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #14 and marked the band’s third consecutive #1 Reggae Album.

Local opening act to be announced.

6th Annual Slam Against Violence

April is National Poetry Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month – celebrate both by joining us for an evening of inspiration & entertainment as we seek to end violence against women through creative expression & financial support for the YWCA of Hawai'i Island Sexual Assault Support Services.

A Poetry Slam is a fun and competitive poetry event where poets are awarded prizes based on audience support for their performance. For the Slam Against Violence, we will be mixing it up a bit, so please read below for the basic rules:

Bring a poem (or a story or song, but no instruments please) that helps make the world safer for women. Perhaps it honors an important woman in your life, exposes the tragedy of sexual assault, or celebrates the wisdom & contributions of women in our local or global community. It can be your own work, or that of another poet or artist. You’ll have 3 minutes to perform the poem on stage (memorization is great, but not required).

In exchange for a donation of any amount, audience members will have the opportunity to honor the performers by giving lei to the poets of their choice. The poets with the most lei at the end of the night will win prizes. So, bring poetry to share and cash to support YWCA of Hawai'i Island Sexual Assault Support Services. And be prepared to have a great time with your Hawai’i Island ‘ohana in a creative, supportive and inspiring atmosphere!

BAMP Project and Goldenvoice present Jack White

BAMP Project AND Goldenvoice PRESENT
Jack White
BRINGS HIS PROLIFIC SOUND TO Neal Blaisdell Arena
ON APRIL 15TH
TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

Jack White, one of the most prolific and renowned artists of the past two decades, announced today that he will be performing at Honolulu’s Blaisdell Arena on April 15th, 2015. Ticket sales begin this Saturday, January 31st at 10am at the Blaisdell Box Office & Ticketmaster.com.

When the White Stripes started in 1997 no one, least of all Jack, ever expected that a red, white and black two-piece band would take hold in the mainstream world. The band's self-titled debut and sophomore effort De Stijl amassed critical acclaim and built a passionate underground following, but it was the release of 2001’s White Blood Cells that thrust the White Stripes onto magazine covers as they captivated larger audiences through worldwide touring. “Fell in Love With a Girl” served as the band’s breakthrough hit and its accompanying Michel Gondry Lego clip was chosen by Pitchfork Media as the #1 music video of the 2000s.

The release of Elephant in 2003 not only cemented the band’s reputation, but also offered the hit “Seven Nation Army” which has since been appropriated as arguably the most popular chant in sports stadiums around the world.

In 2004, White teamed up with Loretta Lynn to produce and perform on her Van Lear Rose album, an effort that won GRAMMY Awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for the single “Portland, Oregon.” To date White has won nine GRAMMYs in seven different categories.

White formed a "new band of old friends," the Raconteurs, in 2006. Their debut album Broken Boy Soldiers featured the #1 hit single "Steady, As She Goes" and showed a markedly different side of White, one where songwriting, vocal and guitar duties were shared. In 2009, White returned to his original instrument, the drums, and started the Dead Weather with members of the Kills, Queens of the Stone Age and the Greenhornes. Releasing two albums in two years and unleashing a dark, captivating live show upon curious audiences, the Dead Weather further cemented Jack White’s musical versatility and range.

Also in 2009, White opened the doors to his very own Nashville-based record label, Third Man Records, where he has since produced and released more than 250 records in just over five years. With a catalogue of releases from artists as varied as Jerry Lee Lewis, the Smoke Fairies, Wanda Jackson, Black Milk and Stephen Colbert, and unimagined vinyl configurations, the label has rightfully earned its reputation as a leader in the vinyl record industry.

On April 24, 2012, White released his debut album Blunderbuss on Third Man Records/Columbia. Blunderbuss debuted at #1 on the U.S. albums chart--a career first for White--and was both the top selling vinyl album and the highest charting solo debut of 2012 in the U.S. Blunderbuss also hit #1 in the UK, Canada and Switzerland, and received five GRAMMY nominations, including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song for "Freedom at 21," and, the following year, Best Rock Performance and Best Music Video for “I’m Shakin’.”

White released Lazaretto (Third Man Records/Columbia), the follow-up to the gold-certified Blunderbuss, on June 10th, 2014. Once again debuting at #1 on the U.S. albums chart and at #1 in Canada and Denmark, Lazaretto also broke the record for first-week vinyl album sales--selling over 40,000 copies in the U.S.--making it not only the biggest selling vinyl album of 2014, but of any year since 1991.

FEATURED SPEAKERS

Charles Horton

Charles Horton has been setting and achieving goals since he was a young boy. At age 16 Charles set his sights on becoming financially independent. His first venture started at a local flea market. After finding an item that caught his eye, he asked the person at the booth if they would take a personal check. The man responded, "No son. No one here accepts personal checks. This is a cash only business."

Somewhat dismayed, Charles continued to walk through the flea market and asked a few more vendors the same question, "Will you take a personal check?" He received the same answer from each vendor, "no". It was at this moment that Charles came up with an innovative idea. "What if I set up a booth and cashed personal checks for flea market shoppers?" He approached the manager of the market and told him his idea. "If you will build me a booth and charge me no vendor fee, I will cash personal checks for your shoppers as a convenience for people who run out of cash while they are browsing your flea market." One thing quickly led to another and it wasn't long before this 16-year-old boy was cashing over $100,000 in personal checks on a typical weekend.

That event was to serve as a stepping-stone to a very lucrative career in the business of personal finance for Charles. It was during this time, that Charles set a goal to become a millionaire by his 30th birthday. And yes, he achieved that goal he set for himself many years before.

Now at age 40 Charles is a self-made multi-millionaire and oversees his more than 50 retail financial outlets across the country. His company has been bestowed (twice) by INC. 500 as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in America. He now runs his finance empire from his own 12000 sq. ft. villa surrounded by pools, creeks, waterfalls and a private coy stocked lake. He has come a long way since he took that first stroll through the flea market.

In addition to his primary endeavor, Charles has also become an excellent public speaker and teacher of goal setting and finance. He conducts seminars around the country and shares his philosophy with seminar attendees. "It's what makes me the happiest. I love helping others," says Horton. He regularly conducts firewalk seminars to people from all over the globe. "It's about breaking through limitations and getting to the next level in life. That has been the cornerstone of my personal philosophy for many years. Identify what's holding you back and move through it. It almost always boils down to fear on some level."

Krish Dhanam

Krish Dhanam joined the Zig Ziglar Corporation in the sales department in October of 1991. Through speaking and teaching the timeless principles of its legendary founder Zig Ziglar, Krish soon embarked on a career that has seen him facilitate workshops and conduct seminars all over the world. His current assignments include functioning as Vice President of Consulting and Business Development for Ziglar True Performance and Co-founder of Krish Dhanam Training International.

As a writer he has authored articles on a range of topics spanning from personal relationships to corporate change. Recognized by his peers as a dynamic personality, Krish says that sharing a stage with a President pales in comparison to watching a movie with his son.

Krish will teach two days of hands on speaking, training and coaching. No matter what your current level of public speaking proficiency is, you will leave a better speaker.

Tom Niesen

Tom Niesen is founder and CEO of Acuity Training Systems, Inc. Acuity has schools for salespeople, sales managers, and entrepreneurs in Dallas, Austin, and Houston. Tom can frequently be found on the road conducting in-house workshops for major corporations. He is regularly asked to assist in training and development of sales trainers nationwide. Tom teaches non-traditional client development, negotiating, and business development to thousands of professionals in over 260 industries. In fact, in a recent Magazine article "Sales Superstars" 4 of the 8 listed were clients of Acuity Training systems. Tom has conducted seminars for such companies as Quaker Oats, Minolta, Lucent, Fuji Film and McDonalds. Tom is presently working on his Ph.D. at Dallas Baptist University. Tom has been featured in radio and print. Tom Niesen was also 1999 Dallas Man of the Year.

Building a business is a separate task from facilitating an event. In Tom's section you will consider your future and how firewalking events fit into your business plan.

EXAMPLES OF TOPICS COVERED
Sales and marketing are necessary elements of having successful events. How do you reach the people interested in your event? How do you generate interest in those who have never heard of firewalking?

When the details of an event are properly planned, the attendees will think you are hardly working. When there are problems, they will think you didn't work hard enough. All the details for facilitating a flawless experience are examined, from transportation; room set up and drinks, to lighting, sound and minimizing distractions.

Public speaking has a reputation as something that frightens many people. You will grow as a speaker from the exercises and critiques in this section. More importantly you will learn that speaking is only part of facilitating. Keeping the group focused and energized is another skill you will consider. Done well this rises to the level of an art form; performance art.

And of course, walking on a bed of coals is a more complex event to co-ordinate than most seminars. All the specific issues of having the fire, safety, setting and group dynamics come together just when you want them to, require a team of trusted individuals. In this section you will consider these factors.
