Kamehameha: The Rise of a King

Join us at the Hilo Public Library to meet David Kāwika Eyre, author of Kamehameha: The Rise of a King.

His book is an exciting work of historical fiction based on Hawaiian sources and years of research by David Kāwika Eyre. Targeted for young readers, the stories shed new light on Kamehameha’s upbringing and his lifelong quest to unify the Hawaiian Islands.

David Kāwika Eyre is a lifelong educator who served as a high school Hawaiian language teacher at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama for twenty-three years. His books have received numerous Ka Palapala Po‘okela honors, including the 2014 Award of Excellence in Children’s Literature.
