Altar Native Revisted

Award winning Slack Key, Folk Rocker, Millicent Cummings presents a timely musical odyssey entitled, 'Altar Native', (Revisited). Several of the songs to be performed were presented by Hawai'i Public Radio in 2008, the live recording of which was a Hoku Award Nominee. She will also be performing many new songs written over the past 14 years for each of the eight Hawaiian Islands about the inspiring beauty of Hawai'i, as well as the tragic paradoxes that simultaneously exist.
Musically, this presentation is as diverse as the people who coexist here, dancing from one genre to another...Through the ruckus terrain of Rock and Roll, the peaceful shores of the tender ballad and even the playful satire of the Irish dirge...Each in their own unique, slack key tunings for both guitar and ukulele.
Cummings has chosen to give a solo concert this time, unaccompanied and genuine...A time when the Hawaiian people and supporters of indigenous rights are uniting for a more sustainable future. She is an Aloha Aina Warrior, having played benefit concerts, produced festivals, rallied and volunteered countless hours on Kaho'olawe, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Moloka'i and the Big Island in restoration and preservation projects. This dynamic, eco-feminist songwriter sings with Aloha-filled, positive messages to honor the Land and the Children of the Land at a furtive and important cross roads in Hawaiian history.

This One Night Only concert will be held in the theater at the Hawai'i Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Hilo from 7 to 9 PM. Tickets are $10 for members and $12 for non-members at the door. For more information visit www.ehcc.org or www.millicentcummings.com We hope you join us!...Malama Pono and ALOHA!

BAMP Project presents Cat Empire

BAMP Project presents The Cat Empire performing live in Honolulu at The Republik Saturday, April 25th, 2015 with Special Guest Current Swell. Tickets are on sale NOW at the locations listed below. This event is open to all ages accompanied by an adult.

The Cat Empire is an Australian ska and jazz band that produces music that is a fusion of jazz, ska, funk and rock with heavy Latin influences. Their music is multi-genre, always changing, and always explores the boundaries of their mutable and uncertain identity. Since their formation, the band has played many notable gigs including the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, the Melbourne Grand Prix Event, and even shared the stage with KISS. Developing a large and growing following over the years, the band has toured Asia, America, and Europe and appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, as well as the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

For over a decade, The Cat Empire have carved themselves out a unique place in the musical firmament, as a band with no guitars, with no easily definable style, but a band that can step onto any stage in the world and make the crowd move. Steal the Light, the band's most recent album and their fifth studio album to date, received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The band's vocalist and trumpeter Harry Angus described the album as 'as return to our original aesthetic.' Continuing to utilize the band's roots in jazz, The Cat Empire's discography creates the best soundtrack for dancing and feeling good.

BAMP Project presents Rebelution

BAMP Project presents Rebelution live in Honolulu at The Republik Wednesday, April 15th and Thursday, April 16th, 2015. Tickets on sale NOW. This event is open to all ages accompanied by an adult.

The seeds of Rebellion germinated in Santa Barbara’s college town of Isla Vista in 2004. A student named Marley D. Williams had recently switched from baseball to bass guitar when, walking to choir practice one night, he heard strains of roots-reggae coming through a door. The fellow reggae enthusiast turned out to be Rachmany, a devotee of roots-reggae and dancehall, and especially the music of Don Carlos and Black Uluru.

The nucleus of a new and innovative “California Reggae” band got rock-solid when Marley heard percussionist and drummer Wesley Finley’s impressive solos on a big African drum in a World Music class. At the same time, the bassist had befriended a local band featuring keyboardist Rory Carey, who soon became another cornerstone of the budding Rebelution.

“Too blessed to be stressed,” is one of many key song lyrics from Rebelution’s new album Count Me In. This is their fourth full-length release on its own label 87 Music, and partnering for the first time with Easy Star Records, makes its tenth year together. Count Me In, released on June 10th, 2014, debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #14 and marked the band’s third consecutive #1 Reggae Album.

Local opening act to be announced.

BAMP Project and Goldenvoice present Jack White

BAMP Project AND Goldenvoice PRESENT
Jack White
BRINGS HIS PROLIFIC SOUND TO Neal Blaisdell Arena
ON APRIL 15TH
TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

Jack White, one of the most prolific and renowned artists of the past two decades, announced today that he will be performing at Honolulu’s Blaisdell Arena on April 15th, 2015. Ticket sales begin this Saturday, January 31st at 10am at the Blaisdell Box Office & Ticketmaster.com.

When the White Stripes started in 1997 no one, least of all Jack, ever expected that a red, white and black two-piece band would take hold in the mainstream world. The band's self-titled debut and sophomore effort De Stijl amassed critical acclaim and built a passionate underground following, but it was the release of 2001’s White Blood Cells that thrust the White Stripes onto magazine covers as they captivated larger audiences through worldwide touring. “Fell in Love With a Girl” served as the band’s breakthrough hit and its accompanying Michel Gondry Lego clip was chosen by Pitchfork Media as the #1 music video of the 2000s.

The release of Elephant in 2003 not only cemented the band’s reputation, but also offered the hit “Seven Nation Army” which has since been appropriated as arguably the most popular chant in sports stadiums around the world.

In 2004, White teamed up with Loretta Lynn to produce and perform on her Van Lear Rose album, an effort that won GRAMMY Awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for the single “Portland, Oregon.” To date White has won nine GRAMMYs in seven different categories.

White formed a "new band of old friends," the Raconteurs, in 2006. Their debut album Broken Boy Soldiers featured the #1 hit single "Steady, As She Goes" and showed a markedly different side of White, one where songwriting, vocal and guitar duties were shared. In 2009, White returned to his original instrument, the drums, and started the Dead Weather with members of the Kills, Queens of the Stone Age and the Greenhornes. Releasing two albums in two years and unleashing a dark, captivating live show upon curious audiences, the Dead Weather further cemented Jack White’s musical versatility and range.

Also in 2009, White opened the doors to his very own Nashville-based record label, Third Man Records, where he has since produced and released more than 250 records in just over five years. With a catalogue of releases from artists as varied as Jerry Lee Lewis, the Smoke Fairies, Wanda Jackson, Black Milk and Stephen Colbert, and unimagined vinyl configurations, the label has rightfully earned its reputation as a leader in the vinyl record industry.

On April 24, 2012, White released his debut album Blunderbuss on Third Man Records/Columbia. Blunderbuss debuted at #1 on the U.S. albums chart--a career first for White--and was both the top selling vinyl album and the highest charting solo debut of 2012 in the U.S. Blunderbuss also hit #1 in the UK, Canada and Switzerland, and received five GRAMMY nominations, including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song for "Freedom at 21," and, the following year, Best Rock Performance and Best Music Video for “I’m Shakin’.”

White released Lazaretto (Third Man Records/Columbia), the follow-up to the gold-certified Blunderbuss, on June 10th, 2014. Once again debuting at #1 on the U.S. albums chart and at #1 in Canada and Denmark, Lazaretto also broke the record for first-week vinyl album sales--selling over 40,000 copies in the U.S.--making it not only the biggest selling vinyl album of 2014, but of any year since 1991.
