The Untold Story: Internment of Japanese Americans in Hawai’i

The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi (JCCH) and the Pearl City Public Library invite you to attend a special screening of the documentary, The Untold Story: Internment of Japanese in Hawaiʻi. After the film, Les Goto and Marilyn Higashide of JCCH will deliver a fascinating talk discussing the events leading up to the internment in ʻEwa while the Territory of Hawaii was placed under martial law. A brief Q&A session will follow.
February 19, 2017 marks the 75th anniversary of the day when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. The presidential order cleared the way for removal, detention and incarceration of 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry from the West Coast. In Hawaii, martial law was declared and the U.S. military and FBI began a “selective” roundup and imprisonment of persons of Japanese ancestry.
