Liliuokalani trusted the railways would “gird the whole island and so develop its resources and promote the industry of its people\,” \n1975 Mabel Wilcox restored steam Locomotive ‘WAINIHA’\, Hawaii’s ‘Last Steam Sugar Cane Train’. Miss Mabel Wilcox\, whose legacy provides the world’s largest collection of operating Hawaii sugar plantation steam trains \nMiss Mabel\, the niece of Grove Farm plantation owner G.N. Wilcox\, is why Kauai still has operating sugar cane locomotives. “Miss Mabel’s preservation of Kauai history\, seen through the protection of the sites where her missionary heritage placed its roots in island soil. \nBe sure to drive slow on Haleko Road. If you have time stop by and take a ride. \nIf you do go down\, feel free to share your photos on our page. \nPost to social media using these hashtags:\n#KauaiTrains\n#KauaiSteamTrains\n#KauaiSteam \nMahalo!

SUMMARY:A Visual History of Post War Hawai'i
DESCRIPTION:Join Hula Preservation Society (HPS) & our elders to learn about this new online visual resource. HPS received a grant from the Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities to present a set of 200 images online for the first time that provide insight into life in Hawai‘i in the late 1940s and 1950s. The post-World War II period brought tremendous growth and change in the islands. There was the sustained military and expanded visitor population that came by air and sea…there were the alluring tales of the Pacific coupled with fresh memories of Pearl Harbor…Hula and Hawaiian entertainment were an integral part of the visitor experience and helped many to make heartfelt and lifelong connections with the people\, culture\, stories\, and landscapes of the islands. HPS is a non-profit established in 2000 dedicated to preserving & sharing the unique spirits\, authentic voices\, and historical record of our hula kūpuna and sharing that treasury with present and future generations. \nPlease join us for this special presentation in the 1st floor reading room of Hawaii State Library. For more information on this event\, please check out the event flyer on the HPS website: http://www.hulapreservation.org/activities.asp \nProgram schedule is subject to change. Please contact the library at least 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.

SUMMARY:Self Confidence: Arm Balance Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Self-Confidence: Arm Balance Workshop\nIt's easy to feel shaky in arm balances. The idiom\, “Falling flat on your face\,” is about failure\, and with arm balances like Bakasana (Crane Pose)\, it’s a literal description of what might happen if you fall out of the pose. And if you are like most students\, you approach arm balances with anxiety\, fearing that your arms are not strong enough and that you might find you have bruised your body (and ego). To compensate for this\, you use stubbornness–your face scrunches\, your knuckles and wrists hurt\, and you leave class feeling like you failed. Arm balances take more than muscle power and determination to find lift-off. Learn how to fly in arm balances by taking an intentional practice for your hamstrings\, hips\, knees\, and torso. Let's build a love relationship with arm balances! \n30$ Drop in! \nhttp://www.yogacentered.com/features/self-confidence-arm-balance-workshop
