SUMMARY:BAMP Project Presents Kaleo
DESCRIPTION:BAMP Project presents Kaleo live in Honolulu at The Republik\, Friday\, April 28th\, 2017. Sign up for the BAMP Blast for the Pre-Sale Offer no late than 12pm this Wednesday at BampProject.com on the bottom of the home page. Select “Indie” & any other genres you are interested in. Tickets will be on sale to the General Public on Friday\, January 20th starting at 10:00am at all the locations listed below. This is an all ages accompanied by an adult event. \nThe four-piece band from Iceland who now call the US home. Call it a split upbringing: the isolated heritage that results from coming of age in Iceland has paired with the fresh inspiration of moving to America\, and the band has built a sound to match the disparate landscapes. A gorgeous and raucous blend of rock\, folk and blues\, Kaleo’s debut LP embodies that very spirit of duality: titled A/B\, the album showcases the band’s multi-layered dynamics and ability to play different genres with equal skill. \nBest friends since attending elementary school outside of Reykjavik\, bandleader JJ Julius Son\, drummer David Antonsson\, and bassist Daniel Kristjansson began playing together at the age of 17 before adding guitarist Rubin Pollock to the mix in 2012. They named the band Kaleo\, which means “thesound” in Hawaiian\, and started their career in with a handful of well-received shows at the 2012 Iceland Airwaves music festival. The band signed to Elektra/Atlantic and moved to the States in early 2015\, choosing Austin as their new base. \nTickets available at:\nFlavorus.com / BampProject.com / JointheRepublik.com / Local Motion Stores / Navy/Hickam ITT Offices / Army LTS Offices / UH Campus Center / The Republik Box Office Tuesday through Friday 10:00am until 6:00pm with a $2.00 service fee per ticket.

SUMMARY:“He Lawai’a: The Art of Fishing (Talk Story)
DESCRIPTION:The Molokai Arts Center\, in partnership with Ka Honua Momona\, is presenting their second Hawaiian Arts Program talk story\, “He Lawai’a: The Art of Fishing” with Uncle Apo Aquino and Uncle Mac Poepoe on Friday\, April 28th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The event will take place at Ka Honua Momona’s Hale Momona at the fishpond restoration site 3 miles east of Kaunakakai. This event is free of charge. \nThe resources of the ocean have always been important to survival in the Hawaiian islands. Not only have the tools and techniques used in fishing been honed to a fine art over centuries\, but so has the management of fishing resources—one cannot separate the tools of fishing from the greater ethic of the fisherman. Uncle Apo and Uncle Mac will discuss making fishing tools\, as well as the responsibility of the fisherman\, different perspectives on the craft and different stylistic approaches. There will be a question and answer period at the end. Families are encouraged to attend\, and bring a dish to share. This talk story comes in advance of a hands-on workshop in May with Uncle Apo on making scoop nets\, a beginning step in learning how to make ‘upena (throw nets). The details of that workshop are to be announced. For questions\, email MolokaiArtsCenter@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:BAMP Project presents: SuicideBoyS
DESCRIPTION:BAMP Project presents $uicideBoy$ performing live in Honolulu at The Repubilk on Thursday\, April 27th. This is all ages accompanied by an adult event. \nNew Orleans rap duo $uicideBoy$ combined their talents in 2014\, but the pair were already well-acquainted. The cousins — Ruby da Cherry and $lick $loth — grew up together\, white kids in black neighborhoods on the east and west banks of the Crescent City. However\, they initially veered down different paths. Ruby (aka Suicide Leopard) dabbled in punk rock\, influenced by The Misfits\, Minor Threat\, and Leftover Crack. Meanwhile\, $lick (aka Suicide Christ) was a DJ and songwriter. Once they joined forces\, the result was a dark blend of horrorcore glitch-trap bubbling with booming bass\, ominous atmospherics\, and occultish\, drugged-out rhymes. Signed to G59 Records\, the Boy$ released the ambitious ten-part series\, Kill Your$elf. With titles like The $uicide $aga\, The $eppuku $aga\, and Re$urrection\, $uicideBoy$ layered their twisted raps over short tracks\, releasing additional EPs like Black $uicide (with Black Smurf)\, Grey Sheep\, G.R.E.Y.G.O.D.S.\, and My Liver Will Handle What My Heart Can't in 2015. By 2016\, with SXSW and international shows under their belts\, the recordings continued\, notching nearly 30 full efforts within two years. Radical $uicide\, their 29th release\, arrived in the summer of 2016. The five-track EP produced by Getter peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Rap charts. \nTickets on sale Friday\, March 3rd at all locations listed below:\nBampProject.com / JointheRepublik.com / SeeTickets.us / Local Motion Stores / Navy/Hickam ITT Offices / Army LTS Offices / UH Campus Center / The Republik Box Office Tuesday through Friday 10:00am until 6:00pm with a $2.00 service fee per ticket.

Visit our website for more information:\nhttp://hawaiiansanctuary.com/plantaloha \nThursday\, April 27th\, 2017. 9am-12:30pm\nProtein Crops: Perennial Greens\, Legumes\, Nuts & Seeds with Wade Bauer\nCome find out about high protein crops including leaf crops: moringa\, chaya and katuk\, legumes: perennial lima bean\, long bean and pigeon pea\, pumpkin seeds and more! \nEach class starts promptly with a lecture and Q&A before hands-on farm learning ~ Come prepared with notepad and writing utensil\, closed toed shoes\, sun hat\, and gloves. \nThis class is part of the Plant Aloha Permaculture Series facilitated by Wade Bauer. \nThe goal is to teach local residents how to efficiently grow their own food at home to provide a fresh organic balanced diet. From field or backyard to table all the crops necessary are covered including their propagation\, cultivation\, harvest\, preservation\, and use. Permaculture tools and techniques focus on easy and practical ways to create food abundance at home. Every class is a blend of practical theory and hands on projects. Occasionally\, free plant starts will be available. \nLocally\, this series will help increase food security and resiliency to natural disaster in Hawaii by relocalizing and diversifying our food supply. Globally\, this series also helps reduce transportation of food\, which will decrease carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. Culturally\, these classes cover polynesian and pacific island crops and farming methods\, which help preserve traditional Hawaiian horticultural practices. Plants from around the world that are already in use in Hawaii\, will be highlighted\, showcasing the multicultural heritage that makes present day Hawaii and our grinds unique and ono-licious. \nPlant Aloha is supported\, in part\, by the County of Hawaii\, Research & Development. We are still looking for support to complete and enhance this amazing project.
