DESCRIPTION:Join us for a cleanup at Old Airport State Park on Sunday July 24th hosted by Surfrider Foundation Big Island Hawai`i Chapter – Kona Kai Ea\, Kona Honu Divers\, and Big Island Divers! \nCheck-in will be at 9am\, with cleanup beginning at 9:30am.  We will be doing a combination of shore and in-water cleanup for this event (swell permitting)! Certified divers are welcome to a complimentary air tank rental for this event while supplies last! Tank rentals require a cert card and will be availble in-store at Kona Honu Divers and Big Island Divers (both located on Kaiwi St) on the morning of the cleanup.\n*If you are planning to cleanup underwater\, please make sure you have a dive buddy\, SMB\, and scissors / cutting tools. This forest is one of the last large tracts of dry forest left in Hawai‘i. While there are serious threats to this forest\, restoration efforts are helping to protect this special home of a critically endangered bird\, the palila.  \nGrand Opening Celebration\nWednesday\, July 27\, 2016\n10:30 am\nFree guided hikes – 11:15 am & 1:00 pm\nEducation booths\nFree keiki crafts\nLight refreshments \nDIRECTIONS\nFrom the Daniel K. Inouye Highway\, take the Old Saddle Road towards Waiki‘i. Turn off at the Kilohana Hunter Checking Station (between mile markers 43 and 44). From there 4×4 vehicles can drive up the “R-1” road 4 miles to the trail head.\n2-wheel drive vehicles should park at Kilohana and take the free shuttles.  \nFREE SHUTTLES\nFor those without 4×4 drive\, park at the Kilohana Hunter Checking Station off Old Saddle Road.\nShuttles will depart from Kilohana every 30 minutes\, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

The author will also discuss the role of the Lee family of Hilo in the 1993 return to Hawai'i of ʻŌpūkahaʻia's remains. \nProgram schedule is subject to change. Diagnosed with stage 2 Colorectal cancer\, Makala Kozo Hattori refused conventional treatments of chemo\, radiation\, and surgery in favor of healing with Aloha practices handed down from his kûpuna (elders). He has found that Aloha can not only heal the body\, but also bring peace to relationships and the world. This workshop combines Hawaiian practices like ho'oponopono\, oli\, and “talk story”; Eastern practices like Yoga Nidra and meditation: with Western research in compassion cultivation and vagus nerve activation to bring healing into all aspects of our lives. \nIn the Aloha Spirit\, this workshop is given *freely with an opportunity to pay-it-forward.  \nRefreshments and snacks will be available.  \n*$10 facility fee donation for the Hawaiian Sanctuary is encouraged.
