SUMMARY:Beautiful Backbends
DESCRIPTION:Backbending asanas are the gateway into the heart chakra (anahata). When this center is open there is a natural sense of union with everyone and everything\, dispelling separation\, fear and duality. After many years living and teaching in southern Arizona\, she and her family moved to the Big Island in 2015. Now an instructor at Kalani\, Marcia teaches Integral Hatha Yoga on the weekly schedule. SUMMARY:Hawaiian slingshot workshop #2 of 3
DESCRIPTION:Note: the location of this workshop will be announced prior to the Sept 9th date. Be sure to provide good contact information when signing up for this. Space is limited\, so if you are interested\, don't delay in signing up! Dates of each workshop is Sept. 9\, 23 and 30 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. \nThe Hawaiian Arts Program at Molokai Arts Center\, with support from Hawaii Tourism Authority and Hawaii People’s Fund\, will be hosting a series of workshops this month on the making and skills of ma’a\, or the “Hawaiian slingshot.” The ma’a was the long range weapon of choice in ancient Hawaii\, being easily portable and renewable\, as well as accurate and effective. All Hawaiian Arts Classes are free of charge\, but space is very limited\, so register early. To register\, contact molokainuiahina@gmail.com. \nThe first workshop in this series of three\, will be on the making of the ma’a itself on Saturday\, September 9th from 9am to 5pm. The second will be on Saturday\, September 23\, focusing on the making of ma’a pohaku\, or sling stones. The third will be on Saturday\, September 30 on the use and practice of ma’a. The location of the workshops will be confirmed upon being registered. \nThe Hawaiian Arts Program is in its pilot year\, and is focusing on fostering\, teaching and preserving traditional and emerging Native Hawaiian art forms\, and doing so in a Native Hawaiian way. This program has been generously supported by the Hawaiian Tourism Authority\, Hawaii People’s Fund and private donations. Past workshops have included a tools and weapons talk story\, a workshop on making niho oki\, a cutting tool\, and ‘upena\, or net making. There will be a lot more to come\, so stay tuned! If you are not on our email newsletter list\, please sign up for it here.
