Can coloring help you relax? \nFrom choosing colors to the gentle\, repetitive motion of your hands as you bring color to paper\, coloring can be seen as a form of “active meditation”. Oftentimes\, when you think of meditation\, you think of sitting still for a long period of time. With active meditation\, it is just the opposite: repetitive motions such as coloring cna help strengthen your focus and easily shift your attention back to a relaxed state. Stressful thoughts and future worries can be simply pushed aside as you take time to enjoy the present. Join us every Saturday for this mellow\, relaxing event.  \nProgram schedule is subject to change. Program is suitable for ages 16 and older. All materials will be supplied. DESCRIPTION:Intention-Setting & Honoring the Natural Cycles of Life:\nYoga\, Ayurveda\, Mantra\, Meditation & More! \nSunday\, October 9th from 12:30-3:30pm \nThis class will be like a mini-retreat\, an opportunity for you to reflect\, unwind and reconnect! We will open with an Ayurveda-based discussion about daily\, seasonal and other natural rhythms of life that affect the quality of health via our sleep-wake cycles\, metabolism and hormones…assess your current state of health and identify any health goals that you may have. \nThen we will reflect upon the idea of sankalpa\, a vow that is committed to with strong resolve. You will have the time to set your own sankalpa\, perhaps one that you can incorporate into your yoga practices\, meditations or daily mantra for the next several months in a way that will support you and help you keep things in perspective. Then you will have the opportunity to make our own wrist malas before finishing the workshop with a symbolic mandala-inspired yoga practice including a creative vinyasa sequences\, a yoga nidra transition into savasana and a guided meditation session that will incorporate mantra (aloud or silent depending on your comfort level). DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, October 10\,  historian Boyd D. Bond will discuss “Kū’ē Petitions\, early Hawaiian opposition to annexation”. \nEach hour long presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. \nBoyd Bond’s knowledge of Hawai'i’s history stems from his academic studies and from a lifetime spent in Hawaii as a 6th generation descendent of early western settlers in Hawaii. Boyd was raised in Hawai'i in a sugar plantation family\, living on plantations throughout the state. \nOf his interest in Hawaiian history\, Bond says\, “I can’t ever remember a time when I wasn’t immersed in it. Many of the stories of Hawai'i’s history are also our family stories.” Bond earned a BA in Hawaiian history from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and went on to earn a masters degree in education. \nCall the North Kohala Public Library at 889-6655 for more information.
