This is a great way for parents and community members to get acquainted with the garden program and have a hand in making it better for all of our children. \nWe have a variety of projects including:\n1) Assemble 3-bin compost system\nThis will greatly speed up the composting process and allow 5th graders to actively manage the compost system throughout the year\, with many lessons to learn. \n2) Assemble 15 wooden benches\nWe will assemble and finish 15 small benches to replace the broken picnic tables that currently provide only seating in the garden. Similar benches were built last year for Kihei Elementary and have worked great. Easy to build and an important addition to garden program. \n3) Clean and Organize Storage Shed\nThe shed is in critical need of clearing and organizing. The shed needs to be emptied\, cleaned\, new shelving units assembled and materials organized on shelves. Tool bins will be installed to keep tools safe and organized. \n4) Improve Nursery Irrigation System\nVolunteers: 2\nInstall misters on irrigation line supported above nursery table to improve watering of nursery starts. \n5) Weeding & straw mulching planting beds\nPull weeds from planting beds and mulch with straw to control weeds. \n6) Mulching paths\nLay down cardboard and cover it with wood chip mulch in paths and open areas to control weeds and grass. \nWe will take a break during the day for a Learning session about rat lungworm disease\, how to protect yourself\, and how it's being address for the school garden program.
