DESCRIPTION:A Deeper Look At Our Bodies with Shannon Schafer\nJune 6th-7th\n$45 per class\, or $70 for both \nSaturday June 6th 12-3pm\nPart 1: Introduction to the Spine and Pelvis: Learn to “stand up” to bad posture and counteract negative movement patterns all on your own.\nWe will begin by talking about basic anatomy of the skeletal frame emphasizing the spine and pelvis. We will break down and discuss the curvatures and movements of the spine and establish why it matters to take a look at them during our Yoga practice\, working our way through a practice focused on asanas which most commonly present misalignments in these areas.\nWe will take an in depth look at our posture\, assessing how our postural habits work into our most fundamental asanas (poses).  Our work will be to establish individually where we tend to misalign\, as well as what we should personally focus on in working against those negative patterns to establish new and healthier ones.  \nSunday June 7th 12-3pm\nPart 2: Myo-fascial and Tension Release: Rid yourself of your aches and pains as we deepen our understanding of the body's internal fabric\, and look into the movements we take over and over again.\nWe will discuss the fascial system (the body’s internal fabric/ connective tissue)\, the concept of Biotensegrity and come to an understanding of how this so deeply impacts our asana practice and can rob us of maximum benefit when not addressed. We will weave in the knowledge of alignment we gained from the Postural Workshop and integrate the ideas of these two systems of the body.\nOur physical work will be head-to-toe\, self myofascial release and massage\, learning simple self-assessment tools to take home with you to transform your body and posture\, as well as manage physical discomfort.

DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the 2015 HSPLS Children’s Summer Reading Program\, “It’s Book Time with Ronald McDonald!” will be presented at 14 Oahu public libraries from Monday\, June 1 through Thursday\, July 16.  Admission is free.  \nRonald McDonald will offer a fun-filled interactive performance featuring a creative blend of music\, magic and games to reinforce the idea that reading is fun\, and books play an important part of every day.  In addition\, Ronald will emphasize appropriate library use and the proper care of books.   \nMcDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii is sponsoring this special 30-minute event which is suitable for children of all ages.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
