ILoveMakonnen\, AutoErotique & Max Styler\nwill be joining Steve Aoki at Hawaii Country Club\, With more Special Guests to be announced soon! \nSteve Aoki is a DJ and also the founder of Dim Mak Records\, which has counted leading indie rock bands such as Gossip\, Bloc Party\, the Kills\, and the Rakes among its stable of signees. The son of wealthy restaurateur Rocky Aoki\, he is of Japanese heritage and calls Los Angeles home. In 2007 he released his first official mix CD\, Pillowface & His Airplane Chronicles\, on Thrive Records. Featuring tracks by Justice\, Klaxons\, Mystery Jets\, Peaches\, Datarock\, Yelle\, Franz Ferdinand\, Bloc Party\, and Scanners — most of them remixed — Pillowface & His Airplane Chronicles is fairly representative of Aoki's renown as a taste-making dance party DJ rather than a skillful turntablist. \nIn 2009 his remix work brought rapper Drake's single “Forever” to the dancefloor\, while 2010 saw him release the “I'm in the House” single with Zuper Blahq\, alter ego of Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am. Further high-profile artists' material was also reworked by Aoki during this period\, with tracks by Michael Jackson\, the Killers\, and Lenny Kravitz all benefiting; while collaborations with like-minded producers such as Armand van Helden and the Bloody Beetroots continued to appear on Dim Mak. By the end of 2011\, the early fruits of sessions for his debut album\, Wonderland\, had materialized as the singles “Earthquakey People” — a collaboration with Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo — and “Tornado\,” on which Aoki combined forces with the multi-award-winning Tiësto. \nIn 2012 he released his first EP\, It's the End of the World as We Know It. More collaborations followed in 2013\, with Aoki reworking a Linkin Park track for the group's remix album Recharged. The resulting “A Light That Never Comes” was released as a single alongside several more remixes. In 2014 he announced details of a forthcoming album titled Neon Future. Marketed as a two-part record\, the first installment arrived later in the year with Fall Out Boy\, will.i.am and Waka Flocka Flame among its guests. Neon Future\, Vol. 2 followed in 2015 with guest appearances from Rivers Cuomo\, Snoop Dogg\, and J.J. Abrams.

SUMMARY:Ailey II at Kahilu Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. Ailey II is one of the most popular dance companies in the country\, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs. In his fifth year leading the company\, Artistic Director Troy Powell welcomed four dynamic new commissions\, three of which will be performed at the Kahilu: Circular\, Stream of Consciousness\, and Sketches of Flames. \nStream of Consciousness\, by former Ailey company member Marcus Jarrell Willis\, gives physical life to our inner thoughts. Willis weaves six simple gestures into “the stream\,” the tumultuous monologue within each person’s mind. Set to a contemporary reimagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by Max Richter\, this work echoes the tension and poignancy of the music’s ever-changing tides. \nIn Sketches of Flames\, Bridget L. Moore fuses flamenco influences with her African-American and contemporary aesthetic to create a rapturous ensemble dance. Set to a series of passionate folk songs and drawing upon the writings of Federico García Lorca and others\, each section of this eight-part work depicts a different facet of the joys and sorrows of love. \nDoors open at 6PM for the performance and there will be beverages and snacks available for sale at the Kahilu Theatre bar. In the Kahilu Galleries the exhibit Solo Exhibits 2017 will be on display featuring works by Eli Baxter\, Margaret Shields\, and Jean René Leblanc. \nTickets are $68 / $58 / $48 / $20 and available for purchase online at http://www.kahilutheatre.org\, by calling (808) 885-6868\, or at the Kahilu Theatre Box Office at 67-1186 Lindsey Road\, Kamuela\, HI 96743\, Monday – Friday\, from 9am to 1pm. \nThis performance is made possible by sponsorship by Kate Bell & Tom Blackburn\, and Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel.

SUMMARY:Intermediate Lindy Hop w/ Andie Gil
DESCRIPTION:The Lindy hop is an American dance that evolved in Harlem\, New York City\, in the 1920s and 1930s and originally evolved with the jazz music of that time. SUMMARY:Bamp Project Presents: Allen Stone
DESCRIPTION:Bamp Project Presents Allen Stone live\nAt Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center\nOn February 20th\, 2017 \nThis is an all ages event \nTickets go on sale Wednesday\, December 21st at 10:00am \nAlong with immersing himself in a songwriting approach that involved unflinching examination of “some very dark and negative moments in my life\,” Stone shaped the sound and feel of Radius by pushing himself to “get past the boundaries of what I felt comfortable with\, so that I could progress into a whole new level of creativity.” Despite that sometimes-daunting process\, Radius wholly reveals Stone’s easy grace in blending everything from edgy soul-pop and earthy folk-rock to throwback R&B and Parliament-inspired funk. \nAt age 22\, Stone self-released his debut album\, 2010’s Last To Speak. But it was his self-titled follow-up that ended up earning him serious recognition. Along with entering the top five on iTunes’ R&B/Soul chart after its digital release\, Allen Stone prompted him to score appearances on such late-night talk shows like Conan and grace the pages of publications like the New York Times. And upon partnering with ATO Records for a physical release of his self-titled album in 2012\, Stone soon turned up on the likes of the Late Show with David Letterman and landed a gig as the opening act for soul legend Al Green. In the midst of all the buzz\, he also took up a grueling touring schedule\, tearing through nearly 600 shows in just two years. \nA local opening act will be announced soon.

Facilitator Eila Algood will moderate the meetings to give the participants a chance to practice writing\, discuss writing skills\, share their work\, enjoy useful feedback\, and share the joys and frustrations of the writing life. Algood\, a poet and writer herself\, has participated in other writing groups. She counts herself among the many writers who find value in the support of a writers’ network. \nAnyone interested in writing is invited to the monthly meetings—beginning writers to published authors\, the timid\, the brave\, serious writers or amateur scribblers\, the prolific and especially—the blocked. \nWriters are invited to bring samples of their work if they care to share\, however\, this is not necessary. All are welcome to listen\, to learn\, and to be inspired. Algood asks that everyone bring a pen and paper for writing. \nProgram schedule is subject to change. Program is intended for patrons ages 12 and older. For additional information on the writers’ group at North Kohala Public Library or to arrange special accommodation\, contact Janet Lam at 889-6655.

SUMMARY:Beginning Charleston
DESCRIPTION:The Charleston is a dance named for the harbor city of Charleston\, South Carolina. The rhythm was popularized in mainstream dance music in the United States by a 1923 tune called “The Charleston” by composer/pianist James P. Johnson which originated in the Broadway show Runnin' Wild and became one of the most popular hits of the decade. Runnin' Wild ran from 29 October 1923 through 28 June 1924. The peak year for the Charleston as a dance by the public was mid-1926 to 1927.
