SUMMARY:Meditative Artwork
DESCRIPTION:Can you remember the sense of peace and enjoyment you felt while coloring as a child? Use colored pencils or gel pens to create a meditative state. Repetitive motions such as coloring (or running\, walking\, dancing) can help strengthen your focus and easily shift your attention back to a relaxed state. Stressful thoughts and future worries can be simply pushed aside as you take time to enjoy the present. Contact the library 15 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.

SUMMARY:Who's Bad - The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience
DESCRIPTION:Who’s Bad – a power-packed tribute to Michael Jackson has ignited crowds on every continent and can only be described as a jaw-dropping\, musical must-see. This is the first concert of the year for HSO’s musicthatROCKS series. \nJoin the HSO for a music and dance experience unlike any other as we present Who’s Bad\, The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience. \nAs the longest-running Michael Jackson tribute band\, and the only one to predate his untimely passing\, Who’s Bad has sold out nearly 50 venues in the United Kingdom including London’s O2 where the King of Pop was slated to end his career with a 50-show “This Is It” concert series. \nThe velvety vocals and pinpoint choreography of frontman James Times combined with the five-piece band’s blaring horns\, down-deep rhythms and the dancer’s synchronized dance routines results in a performance delivered with soul and precision superseded by no one but the King himself. They’ve shared stages with the Queen of Soul\, Aretha Franklin\, The Backstreet Boys\, The Four Tops\, Boys II Men\, and hip hop superstar\, Pitbull. Captivated fans include LIVENATION’s Anthony Nicolaidis who calls Who’s Bad\, “the real deal\,” and Michael Jackson’s longtime friend and manager Frank DiLeo who proclaimed after Who’s Bad show in Nashville\, TN\, “the show was great….Michael would have been proud!” \nWhether you idolized the Jackson 5\, fell in love to Human Nature\, or learned to moonwalk to Billie Jean\, Who’s Bad is THE ULTIMATE music-and-dance driven Michael Jackson homage. \nExcited for this high-energy concert\, HSO Executive Director Jonathan Parrish says\, “musicthatROCKS is part of our ongoing effort to broaden our audience by taking advantage of the amazing versatility of the HSO musicians\, many of whom grew up listening to the King of Pop.” \nFor more information\, please visit their website http://hawaiisymphonyorchestra.org/ \nDates:\nFriday\, November 3\, 2017 at 7:30 pm\nSaturday\, November 4\, 2017 at 7:30 pm \nVenue:\nBlaisdell Concert Hall \nSale Date:\nSaturday\, August 26\, 2017 at 10:00 am HST \nTicket Value:\n$89 Orch A – N Center / Balc A – J\, Balc K – L center\n$74 Orch CC- EE\, Orch A- N sides\, Orch O – Q / Balc M – P center\n$59 Orch R – S / T – W center / Balc K – P sides\n$44 Orch X – Z center / Balc Q – S center\n$29 Orch T – Z sides / Balc Q – S sides

SUMMARY:Nisei Soldiers Story
DESCRIPTION:After Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7\, 1941\, Americans of Japanese Ancestry (AJA) were mistrusted and declared\, “enemy aliens.” Despite the suspicion and bigotry\, thousands of AJAs from Hawaii and the mainland served honorably in four U.S. Army units. The 100th Infantry Battalion/442nd Regimental Combat Team is still today the most decorated combat unit of its size and length of service in U.S. Army history. \nCome and learn about these AJAs who served gallantly in WWII in spite of the fierce prejudice they faced from their own country. Learn how they fought on the battlefield and on home ground after the war to champion equal treatment for all people in the islands and Statehood for Hawaii. \nSpeakers: \nThe Honorable George R. Ariyoshi — former Hawaii Governor\nWes Deguchi — President\, Nisei Veterans Legacy\nSchedule: \n10:30-11:00 a.m. – Reception with refreshments\n11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Exhibit program\nThis 90-minute event is sponsored by the Nisei Veterans Legacy and is suitable for all ages. This event coincides with the exhibit at Salt Lake-Moanalua Public Library entitled: The Nisei Soldiers of World War II.
