SUMMARY:Documentary Screening: Tea Time
DESCRIPTION:Teens and adults are invited to attend this documentary film screening. This is the second in a series of three documentary films in collaboration with POV\, the award-winning independent non-fiction film series on PBS. \nRitual is often associated with powerful and impersonal institutions\, but for five Chilean women\, ritual centers on a monthly gathering that has sustained them through 60 years of personal and societal change. TEA TIME is a charming and poignant look at how a seemingly mundane routine of tea and pastries has helped the well-heeled participants commemorate life's joys and cope with infidelity\, illness\, and death. \nA celebration of the small things that help us endure\, TEA TIME was filmed over five years by filmmaker Maite Alber. The film illuminates a beautiful paradox: as familiar worlds slip away\, friendships grow ever stronger and more profound. \nThe series concludes at the library with THE BEATS OF THE ANTONOU on Monday\, March 28 at 6:30 PM. \nProgram schedule is subject to change. For more information or to arrange a special accommodation\, please call the hosting library as soon as possible: 889-6655.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Santana
DESCRIPTION:Island Favorite Ten-time GRAMMY Award-winning Guitarist Returns to Hawaii Carlos Santana\nTICKETS ON-SALE THIS SATURDAY\, DECEMBER 5th \nTHURSDAY\, MARCH 3\, 2016 – 8:00 PM\, BLAISDELL ARENA \nLegendary guitarist CARLOS SANTANA returns to Hawaii for the first time since standing-room-only shows of 2013\, Thursday\, March 3\, 2016 at the Blaisdell Arena. Tickets go on sale this Saturday\, December 5. \nThere is much aloha for CARLOS SANTANA in Hawaii. Of course\, the iconic sound of SANTANA’s guitar is one of the world’s best-known musical signatures\, however\, equally as relevant to his island fans is the fact that throughout his impressive career SANTANA has been the visionary force behind creativity that transcends musical genres and generational\, cultural\, and geographical boundaries. His artistry is a captivating melting pot that reflects the island culture that is Hawaii. \nSince SANTANA’S last performance in Hawaii he released an album called “Corazon.” Produced by Lester Mendez in 2014\, the album features collaborations with various singers like Gloria Estefan\, Ziggy Marley and Cindy Blackman. \nSANTANA’S first Top 10 hit\, “Evil Ways\,” stayed on Billboard’s chart for two years and was soon followed by two more classics — and Billboard #1 albums — Abraxas (“Oye Como Va”\, “Black Magic Woman”) and Santana III (“No One to Depend On”\, “Everybody’s Everything.”) To date\, Santana has won 10 GRAMMY® Awards\, including a record-tying nine for a single project\, with 1999’s blockbuster Supernatural (“Smooth”\, “Maria\, Maria”\, “Wishing It Was”) which featured many tracks co-written by guest stars such as Rob Thomas of matchbox 20\, Eric Clapton\, Lauryn Hill\, and others. \nIn 1998\, the group was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\, whose website notes\, “Guitarist Carlos Santana is one of rock’s true virtuosos and guiding lights.” Among many other honors\, CARLOS SANTANA received Billboard Latin Music Awards’ 2009 Lifetime Achievement Honor\, and he was bestowed Billboard’s Century Award in 1996. He has also been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on the magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”—“Santana’s crystalline tone and clean arcing sustain make him the rare instrumentalist who can be identified in just one note.” And\, with the 2010 release of Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time\, SANTANA joined The Rolling Stones as one of only two music acts in Billboard history to score at least one Top Ten album in each decade from the 1960s on. \nPresented by Marek Lieberberg in association with Ron Gibson Entertainment. \nWhere: Blaisdell Arena\nWhen: Thursday\, March 3\, 2016 Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PM\nPrices: $59.00\, $79.00\, $99.00\, and $149.00\nAvailable: Tickets on-sale Saturday\, December 5\, at 9:00 AM at the Blaisdell Box Office\, all Ticketmaster outlets including Walmart\, online at http://www.ticketmaster.com\, and Charge-By-Phone call toll free @ 1-800-745-3000. SUMMARY:Weekend Immersion with Nicki Doane
DESCRIPTION:January 8th-11th\n$60 for one day\, or $150 for the whole weekend\nNicki Doane had a wanderlust that led her to India in 1991 to study yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois\, and she started teaching in 1992. She cites Pattabhi Jois\, Eddie Modestini\, Gabriella Giubilaro\, and Tim Miller among her most influential teachers. She is an authorized teacher of Ashtanga Yoga. Although rooted in Ashtanga\, Nicki‘s teaching goes beyond the traditional. Her Vinyasa classes combine asana\, pranayama\, philosophy\, and poetry. Nicki’s emphasis is on awareness: creating integrity within each pose that can be carried beyond the mat into daily life. \nFriday January 4th\n5:30-8:30 pm – Intro to Maya Yoga Vinyasa Fusion\nThis class will be an introduction to Vinyasa Fusion\, suitable for all levels\, focusing on opening the front body and strengthening the back. Class will conclude with backbends and inversions.\nSaturday January 5th\n12:30-3:30 – Exploring How a Sustainable Practice Creates a Sustainable Life\nSince our practice is a representation of our lives\, we will explore how this sustainable approach to our asana practice helps us to create and sustain balance in our lives. We invite you to explore Nicki’s unique approach to Vinyasa yoga because it will strengthen all aspects of your being through dynamic structural alignment\, conscious breathing\, and practical yogic philosophy.\nSunday January 6th\n10:00am-1:00pm – Backbends to Extend the Spine and Expand your Consciousness\nThe practice of back bending can be exhilarating\, terrifying\, and incredibly fulfilling. Whatever reasons you come for\, whether it is to conquer some fears or to increase your capacity for expansion\, this class is for you.
