Natural Farming incorporates the Lowest Cost Farming Method so that all supplies are sourced and/or grown here on the island. This complete system of farming saves so much money from buying implements that you can pay yourself more to farm. Natural Farming is about harnessing the power of beneficial microorganisms to provide all the nutrients for a healthy thriving plant or garden. \nWhat to expect: Each class is built upon the next class and are somewhat spontaneous due to the nature of the unpredictable nature of breeding microorganisms. Drake takes you on a journey of the the lifecycle of fungus\, bacteria\, protozoa\, nematodes and more and how they thrive. See below class for example of what to expect. Many subjects are reintroduced at each class so a student will be just as interested if they missed any previous classes. \nPrevious Dec. 31 class covered: Primer on Fermented Plant Juice\, Seawater\, Worm Juice = wood juice\, Use of Lactic Acid Bacteria\, brewing fungal dominant compost teas\, short intro. to tree planting the Master Cho way. DESCRIPTION:Anna Peach\, owner of Squash and Awe Farm\, will offer two presentations at the library to jump start a new year of healthy eating and living.  \nThe first presentation on January 4th will focus on the amazing properties of squash; how to grow them; why to eat them; and ways to enjoy them.  \nBy focusing on soil building\, Peach is able to grow 6 tons of squash annually on her 1/4 acre farm in Waimea. After testing 45 varieties of squash to find the strongest and tastiest\, she now focuses on five workhorse varieties that have proved hardy and pest-resilient. She will explain her farming process.\n“I have no secrets\,” she says. “We keep this knowledge alive by sharing it.” \nFor the second presentation on February 1st\, Peach will share her simple fermentation process to enhance a variety of vegetables. This presentation will also begin at 6:30 p.m.\n“Fermentation is so easy\,” Peach told librarian Janet Lam. Peach will demonstrate her method of simple fermentation. \nBoth programs are free\, open to the public\, and suitable for ages 12 and older.
