Can coloring help you relax? \nFrom choosing colors to the gentle\, repetitive motion of your hands as you bring color to paper\, coloring can be seen as a form of “active meditation”. Oftentimes\, when you think of meditation\, you think of sitting still for a long period of time. With active meditation\, it is just the opposite: repetitive motions such as coloring cna help strengthen your focus and easily shift your attention back to a relaxed state. Stressful thoughts and future worries can be simply pushed aside as you take time to enjoy the present. Nahko is not one of them. And that calling and mission has never been clearer than it is on Nahko and Medicine for the People's third full-length album\, HOKA (SideOneDummy Records). On HOKA\, Nahko's voice is strong. His mission is clear. The mandate has been thrown down. “Hoka is a Lakota word\, an indigenous tribe from the Great Plains\, it is a call to action. It's what Crazy Horse would say when he went into battle\, ‘Hoka\, hey!' My call is to put action to the words that I speak and the lyrics I sing. Through photos\, stories\, and data\, ornithologist Laura Berthold will inform you about their threats and the work that is being done to help their populations. These birds are rare and found nowhere else in the world. \nLaura Berthold has spent the past eight years working for the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project\, helping the endangered kiwikiu. \nThis one-hour program is free of charge and recommended for adults and children age 15 and older.

His focus on Slack Key guitar\, classical\, & jazz music has allowed him to develop a unique and transcendent voice on the guitar while being deeply rooted in the traditions of his Hawaiian heritage. This 45-minute program is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.\nProgram is funded by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i.
