Inspired by the true story of Te Aokapurangi\, a legendary young maiden who was captured in battle\, and  many  years  later\,  returned  to  single-handedly  save  her  people  from  slaughter. The performance draws  on  traditional  Maori  culture with a stunning collage of imagery and movement transcending time and space.  \nMana Wahine will take place on the Kahilu Theatre stage Sunday\, February 4th at 7 pm. DESCRIPTION:The Library will be creating “Ultraviolet Cherry Blossoms” for the 25th Annual Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival.  We welcome patrons to the library so they too can create cherry blossoms while exploring the effects of Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the Sun on humans and blossoms.  Patrons will learn how to test for UV exposure and protect themselves from UV radiation.  This program is part of the Thelma Parker Library’s NASA@My Library initiative to promote STEM learning opportunities for public audiences nationwide with the excitement of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) exploration and discovery. \nProgram schedule is subject to change. DESCRIPTION:The Waimea Cherry Blossom Festival annually celebrates the Japanese tradition of viewing the season’s first blooms\, a celebration called “hanami\,” which literally translates to hana\, “flower” and mi\, “look.” Held the first Saturday of February\, the festival includes a variety of activities 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at multiple venues throughout Waimea. Look for pink banners identifying site locations throughout town. \nSpend the day to experience an all-day lineup of Japanese and multi-cultural performing arts\, plus hands-on demonstrations of bonsai\, origami\, traditional tea ceremony\, fun mochi pounding\, plus a host of colorful craft fairs\, a large quilt show and food booths.
