SUMMARY:Hawaiʻi Alliance for Progressive Action - HAPA
DESCRIPTION:RALLY FOR SB 3095 SD1 HD1 ON APRIL 9TH!!! Hawaiʻi State Capitol Rotunda 12-2pm. Grassroots lobbying from 2-3pm. \nThe current draft of this bill includes: 1) mandatory disclosure 2) no spray zones around schools and 3) a ban on the use of the neurotoxin chlorpyrifos. \nHawaiʻi could make history by being the first state to ban chlorpyrifos for outdoor use. \nChlorpyrifos is known to cause permanent neurological damage to fetuses and childrenʻs developing brains\, even at very low levels. The EPA was poised to ban chlorpyrifos for outdoor use prior to the Trump administration. It was banned for indoor use in 2001. \nJoin us on April 9th to let our legislator's know that our communities need greater protection from dangerous pesticides and the basic right to know what we are exposed to. \n#banchlorpyrifos #whywait? #protectourkeiki #keikioverprofits\n#keikifirst!

SUMMARY:Dirty Cello at the Volcano Art Center
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, April 10 at 7pm at Volcano Art Center Ni‘aulani Campus in Volcano Village \nTickets: $25/$20 (VAC Members) \nFrom China to Italy\, and all over the U.S.\, Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on blues and bluegrass. Led by vivacious cross-over cellist\, Rebecca Roudman\, Dirty Cello is cello like you’ve never heard before. From down home blues with a wailing cello to virtuosic stompin’ bluegrass\, Dirty Cello is a band that gets your heart thumping and your toes tapping! \n“Dirty Cello’s music is all over the map: funky\, carnival\, romantic\, sexy\, tangled\, electric\, fiercely rhythmic\, and textured\, and only occasionally classical.” Lou Fancher\, Oakland Magazine. \n“The band plays every style imaginable\, and does some fantastic covers. (Their rendition of “Purple Haze” is incredible.) But what is most spectacular about them is hearing the depth of soul in Roudman’s playing—it goes beyond what most people would expect from the instrument. She plays it with so much heart\, you’ll wonder why more bands don’t have a cellist.” Good Times Santa Cruz \n“The group seamlessly careens from blues to bluegrass and rock in a way that really shouldn’t make sense but somehow does.” LA Times

The Spring Showcase is HIFF’s annual ‘mini-festival’\, showcasing some of the best Spring season films from across the globe. Like the main festival in November the Spring Showcase is a bridge between “East and West\,” ranging from festival favorites from Sundance\, Berlin\, and Toronto\, to Spring hits from across Japan\, China\, India\, Korea and Southeast Asia. \nThe Palace Theater is proud to be a part of the Hawaii International Film Festival Spring Showcase with 4 full-length films to offer! \nTICKETS: $8.50 General; $7.50 Seniors & Students. Tickets and Pass can be purchased at our box office or over the phone with a credit card at 934-7010\, M-F\, 10AM-3PM. \nFRIDAY\, APRIL 13\n7PM\nCorridor Four\n81 Minutes / English / Documentary / United States \nDirected by: Stephen Tringali \nA nationally recognized K9 Unit Officer\, Isaac Ho’opi’i is responsible for saving numerous people from the Pentagon during the terrorist attacks on September 11\, 2001. Countless articles were written about his heroism following 9/11. He was photographed by Richard Avedon for a spread in USA Today. He appeared on NBC’s Today show. And he ran the Olympic Torch on its way to Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympics. \nCORRIDOR FOUR is a feature-length documentary that illustrates Isaac’s story in the aftermath of 9/11. After all the news cameras had turned off and all the lights had dimmed\, Isaac was left only with the horrific images he had seen and the memory of those he was unable to save. His is a story not of a hero basking in the glory of his past deeds\, but of a human being filled with regret that he couldn’t change something completely out of his control. \nSATURDAY\, APRIL 14\n7PM\n1987: When the Day Comes\n129 Minutes / In Korean with English Subtitles / Drama / South Korea\nDirected by: Joon-Hwan Jang\nIn 1987 Korea\, under an oppressive military regime\, a college student gets killed during a police interrogation involving torture. Government officials are quick to cover up the death and order the body to be cremated. A prosecutor who is supposed to sign the cremation release\, raises questions about a 21-year-old kid dying of a heart attack\, and he begins looking into the case for truth. Despite a systematic attempt to silence everyone involved in the case\, the truth gets out\, causing an eruption of public outrage. \nSUNDAY\, APRIL 15\n2:30PM\nPoint of no Return\n94 Minutes / English / Documentary / United States\nDirected by: Kevin Glynn\nSoaring at 26\,000 feet without a drop of fuel\, nothing is predictable. Not the weather\, not the technology. And certainly not the fate of a man\, alone for five days in a fragile\, first-of-its-kind aircraft with nothing but ocean below. POINT OF NO RETURN takes you behind the headlines of the first solar-powered flight around the world – where two courageous pilots take turns battling nature\, their own crew\, and sometimes logic itself\, to achieve the impossible. Not just to make history\, but to inspire a revolution. \n7PM\nThe Fortress\n140 Minutes / In Korean with English Subtitles / Art House & International\, Drama / South Korea\nDirected by: Dong-hyuk Hwang\nDuring the Qing Invasion of Korea\, the king and the court take refuge in a mountain fortress\, where they find themselves stranded in the cold and surrounded by the enemy. The king’s dilemma deepens as his people in the fortress start dying from cold and hunger.

SUMMARY:The Seat of the Soul Yoga - Asiana Harper & Christine Miller
DESCRIPTION:THE SEAT OF THE SOUL YOGA RETREAT: AN ELEMENTAL PRACTICE OF PRESENCE \nAwaken your senses through this experiential retreat\, The Seat of the Soul: An elemental practice of presence. Over seven days\, our journey will access the gateways of presence using yoga\, breathwork\, meditation and intrinsic movement. Allow the elements of this beautiful location in Chacala\, Mexico\, to stir the earth\, water\, fire\, air and ether both within our bodies and all around us. This retreat is a fine blend of spiritual and somatic discovery that can reveal a place which is often called the seat of the soul\, that point where our inner and outer experience meet. \nEach day will begin with the ritual of movement and stillness\, to anchor us in the tone of presence. Other activities such as hiking\, swimming\, dancing and fire ceremony will delve us deeper into synchronization with the biorhythms of nature. What might we find in the stirring of our watery hearts? Is our path determined by the flame of desire or the tread of connection from sole to earth? Together\, we’ll explore these questions and so many more. \nThe Seat of the Soul is available to all levels of practitioners. This retreat will meet you exactly where you are as a supportive foundation to break through limiting beliefs\, to intimately experience the mind-body connection and to provide tools to harness the most powerful portal in all experience: the power of the present moment. \nINCLUDED\n • 7 nights accommodations\n • 3 meals a day\n • Transportation to/from PVR airport in group shuttle\n • Daily yoga and movement meditation\n • Elemental Playshops\n • Fire circle\n • All Taxes

SUMMARY:The Seat of the Soul Yoga Retreat to Mexico
DESCRIPTION:THE SEAT OF THE SOUL YOGA RETREAT:\nAN ELEMENTAL PRACTICE OF PRESENCE \nWith Asiana Harper And Christine Miller \nSaturday\, April 14 – Saturday\, April 21\, 2017 \nMAR DE JADE\, MEXICO \nAwaken your senses through this experiential retreat\, The Seat of the Soul: An elemental practice of presence. \nEarly Bird = Sign up by November 15th to get $250 off \nREGISTER HERE:\nhttp://bellaretreats.com/bella-retreats/seat-soul-yoga-retreat/
