SUMMARY:Island Earth: Free Screening & Panel Discussion in Waiʻanae
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the free screening of the new documentary “Island Earth” on Monday\, March 6th at 6:30pm at Kahumana Organic Farms! The screening will be followed by a Q&A with HCFS Director Ashley Lukens. \nThe screening is brought to you by HCFS and HFUU's Oʻahu-Waiʻanae Chapter. The event is FREE and open to the public! \n“Island Earth” tells the story of the growing Hawaiian movement of people who are fed up with an industrial agricultural system that is reliant upon fossil fuels\, genetically engineered crops and pesticides. What will it really take to feed world? How can Hawaiʻi become food-independent again while maintaining biodiversity? The documentary aspires to inform and inspire people to consciously participate in taking back our food supply. \n“Island Earth” is directed by the Emmy-winning filmmaker\, entrepreneur\, and professional surfer Cyrus Sutton.\nWATCH THE TRAILER: https://vimeo.com/110395636 \nNB! The theme of the evening is “Locavore Potluck” so feel free to bring a dish to pass. \nWe hope to see everyone there!

SUMMARY:Intermediate Lindy Hop w/ Andie Gil
DESCRIPTION:The Lindy hop is an American dance that evolved in Harlem\, New York City\, in the 1920s and 1930s and originally evolved with the jazz music of that time. It was very popular during the Swing era of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it or were popular during its development but is mainly based on jazz\, tap\, breakaway\, and Charleston.

SUMMARY:Bill 13 County Council Hearing #1
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in telling the Hawai'i County Council to #holdthefoam and to move BILL 13 to reduce polystrene foam food containers and service ware products on Hawai'i Island after July 1st\, 2017. \nHearing will be LIVE from Hilo Council Chambers from 9AM but you can stream in via videoconference from Kona\, Kohala\, Na'alehu and Pahoa. You can also submit testimony through March 7th at noon to counciltestimony@hawaiicounty.gov. \nTo date\, Hawai'i Wildlife Fund and friends have identified over 137 restaurants (and more discovered daily!) and food vendors that have already opted to be FOAM FREE. With new exemptions in place for raw meat\, coolers\, and emergencie services there is little excuse that councilmembers can give to OPPOSE this bill. \nPlease share this event with your favorite foam free restaurant! \nMe ka mahalo ~ HWF team

Permaculture tools and techniques focus on easy and practical ways to create food abundance at home. Every class is a blend of practical theory and hands on projects. Occasionally\, free plant starts will be available. \nLocally\, this series will help increase food security and resiliency to natural disaster in Hawaii by relocalizing and diversifying our food supply. Globally\, this series also helps reduce transportation of food\, which will decrease carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. Culturally\, these classes cover polynesian and pacific island crops and farming methods\, which help preserve traditional Hawaiian horticultural practices. Plants from around the world that are already in use in Hawaii\, will be highlighted\, showcasing the multicultural heritage that makes present day Hawaii and our grinds unique and ono-licious. \nEach class starts promptly with a lecture and Q&A before hands-on farm learning ~ Come prepared with notepad and writing utensil\, closed toed shoes\, sun hat\, and gloves. \nPermaculture Series Facilitator\nWade Bauer has taught Permaculture for over 13 years\, with 10 years in Hawaii.
