Kamehameha was a forward-thinking ruler who sought to bring his kingdom into the modern\, 19th-century world. Join us as we examine the Hawaiian system of land tenure before Ka Māhele\, explore the reasons behind this major paradigm shift in Hawaiian culture\, and take a look at whether or not the monumental effort was successful. \nThis program is presented by the Friends of the Libraries\, Kona (F.O.L.K.). DESCRIPTION:South Kona Farmer Doug Pittman will lead participants in making a biodigester to create fuel from green waste on their farms. Pittman will demonstrate how to construct the digester\, feed it with vegetable matter\, inoculate the slurry\, and use the resulting methane gas and fertilizer. This workshop is sponsored by the Hawaii Organic Farming Association (HOFA). The cost is $25 ($20 for HOFA members).
