The Southern California tech-punk quintet had been so reliable for two decades—write\, record\, tour\, repeat cycle roughly once every two years—that to go this long without new music felt like cause for alarm. SUMMARY:Verdi's Il Trovatore - Opening Night
DESCRIPTION:HOT presents a magnificent new production\, of Verdi’s epic masterpiece\, designed by Peter Dean Beck. \nSet amid the Spanish Civil War\, Count di Luna\, commander of the Royalist Aragon forces\, pines for the love of Leonora\, a young noblewoman who has fallen in love with a mysterious man whom she met before the war. Disguising himself as a troubadour\, the gentleman comes each night to serenade her. The jealous Count suspects that Leonora is in love with the troubadour\, who is in fact Manrico\, leader of the rebel forces. What seems a simple enough conflict spins beyond belief when an old story surfaces amongst Royalist troops: The Count’s rage is driven by the tragic murder of his infant brother\, who was burnt alive by an old gypsy woman. \nFeaturing some of opera’s most famous melodies\, including The Anvil Chorus\, combined with a story rich in action and complexity\, don't miss this is epic Verdi masterpiece.

SUMMARY:SHALA
DESCRIPTION:We welcome our old friend Andrew Eppler to the Shala stage. A MAGIC SHOW for the entire family. Come in your pj's if you'd like and enjoy the show! \nMagic is one of Andrew’s passions and he has always had a keen fascination with all things that seem to be miraculous or unexplainable. Andrew has traveled to many parts of the world\, from the streets of Europe to the jungles of Asia\, to study different types of magical practices. His studies include both modern and ancient forms of sleight of hand and illusion as well as\, rain making and many different ethnic healing ritual practices. The art of illusion has deep roots and is a part of every culture. “I have no magic powers other than the power to practice an art form that I love and to make people smile and take them for a moment to a place of wonder where anything can happen. Reality is very fragile indeed when you start to examine it carefully.” \n$10 Per family and $5 for adults

SUMMARY:SHALA
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 21\, 8-10 am Primary Series $30 ($20 Shala pass holders) \nThis will be a led Primary Series class with each breath called out. We will take time to focus on the more challenging postures and explore ideas for how to safely approach them. One goal of this class is to give students more options for how to modify postures. All approaches will be explained in a way that keeps the breath and bandhas stable and uninterrupted. Each of us have different challenges in the practice. The aim of this workshop it to teach the Ashtanga sequences in a way that empowers students in their own sacred\, healing\, evolving\, life long yoga practice. \nSunday\, May 22\, 9-11:30am Intro to Second Series $45 \nThis will be a gentle tour of 2nd series that is appropriate for everyone. We will discuss how to transition into 2nd series in daily practice and practical ideas for determining when it is appropriate to do so. Intermediate postures can help to create a more balanced practice and take us through the limitations that hold us back in Primary Series. The aim of this class is to demystify the 2nd series and to inspire students to take their practices further. \nSunday\, May 22 11:45am-1:15pm Mudra\, Pranayama and Philosophy $25 \nAfter asana practice we will move on to more subtle practices. The Bandhas we use in Ashtanga Yoga are derived from Mudra practices. We will explore the subject of Mudra and the specific exercises that correspond to the Bandhas. Mudra is a vast branch of yoga and involves a very diverse set of practices. Through these techniques students can gain a much better understanding of what the bandhas do and the role they play with breath. These practices lay a foundation for Asana and they are essential for practicing Pranayama. \nAll 3 workshops: $90
