This exhibit takes a look back at trending fashions from 1950-2000\, as seen in the pages of Hawaii’s popular magazines.  The exhibit opens Wednesday\, November 4\, 2015\, and runs through November 30\, 2015.  The exhibit\, located in the First Floor Reading Room\, is free and open during the library's regular hours.

SUMMARY:Dharma Mittra inspired Sadhana (sacred practice) with Kristen Coyle
DESCRIPTION:Join Kristen tomorrow as she subs for Colee Garr while she is on the West side teaching at a renowned medical conference. Kristen will be offering a Dharma Yoga style practice. Dharma Yoga was created by Yogi Sri Dharma Mittra who has been called the “Rock of Yoga\,” and a living sage by countless people whose lives have been changed from being in the presence of this living master. Dharma Mittra opened his first yoga school in NYC in 1974 and continues to offer daily classes there today at the age of 76. Dharma yoga is based on the eightfold path of Raja (Royal) Yoga with a strong emphasis on every limb! Kristen has been incredibly blessed to study with Dharma and completed her 500 hour training with him in 2011. She continues to study with him whenever possible and is humbled to be able to offer the teachings passed down to her from her beloved teacher. In this practice you will be led through a lovingly challenging flow based\, full spectrum practice that encompasses every category of asana (physical postures). There will also be an emphasis on pranayama\, mantra\, and meditation. Come ready to sweat your prayers and offer it all up! Drop-in $15

Anthony Chrisco BS\, ACE\, NASM PES\,  is co-owner of Your Body is Waiting LLC\, and a Founding Member of the Fascia Research Society. He will be demonstrating his patent-pending Fascianator roller which is designed to help people maintain optimal functioning of their fascia. He will teach students firsthand how to use Fascianator rollers. These will be provided for the class and will be available to purchase for $50.

DESCRIPTION:Headstand\, Shoulderstand &The Importance of Your Core With Amanda Webster\nNovember 21st 1-3pm $30 \nCome explore headstand and shoulderstand with an emphasis on the core stability necessary to practice these poses safely. Class will follow a traditional progression: beginning with a sequence designed to warm your bodies\, and open up your shoulders and hips; spending a majority of the time preparing for\, discussing\, and practicing inversions; ending with a cooling series that will prepare you for an extended\, relaxing savasana. We will be targeting the core muscles in order to transition in and out of inversions with concentration and control; focusing on alignment to create lightness and ease once upside-down; and addressing the mental or emotional obstacles\, such as fear of falling\, that may be getting in the way of your inversion practice. DESCRIPTION:I would like to invite you to join us for a presentation by Ashley Lukens\, the Program Director for the Hawaii Center for Food Safety on their recent report- Pesticides in Paradise: Hawaii’s Health and Environment At Risk\nThe Pesticide Report covers extensive ground on the pesticide and genetic engineering (GE) issues present in Hawaii.  The report intends to resolve any confusion as to why so many people in the state are demanding greater regulation of the GE seed corn industry.\nOur hope is to build support for measures to protect Hawai‘i’s citizens\, particularly children\, from harmful pesticide exposure and for measures to increase Hawai‘i’s local food production and food security.
