SUMMARY:Electric Palms Presents: Doctor P
DESCRIPTION:Electric Palms Presents – Doctor P \nAny true fan of electronic music should instantly recognize Doctor P as one of the original godfathers of the bass-driven Dubstep movement. A true music lover at heart\, Doctor P \, aka Shaun Brockhurst\, has had an intense love of music since he was just a teenager jamming with his friends on drums and guitar. It would later be the fateful acquisition of a Yamaha keyboard and Playstationʼs Music 2000 which would mark the beginning of the rise of one of todayʼs brightest and most innovative artists. Doctor P is what you might label as a triple threat as his talent can be found in the roles he effortlessly balances as a musician\, producer\, and DJ.\nSince his game-changing track\, Sweet Shop \, back in 2009 Doctor P has played some of the hottest venues bringing his homegrown British Dub step stylings to the eager masses across the globe. In just the past few years Doctor P has\, to name just a few highlights\, sold out arenas in LA\, played the legendary Coachella festival\, put on a mind-blowing show at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado\, and most recently tore up the 2012 Hackney Weekender .\nWith a number of iconic releases already under his belt\, such as Tetris\, Superbad \, and of course the Dubstep staple that is Sweetshop \, it is clear that Doctor P has only shown the world a fraction of what he can do. Aside from crafting his own original tracks\, Doctor P has also lent his skills to remixes for artists such as Plan B\, Ed Sheeran\, Example\, Fenech-Soler. The wide variety of genres he takes on only testifies to his adaptability and talent in being able to engage a multitude of different sounds and\, in the process\, creating truly special bass driven music.\nDoctor P's Sweet Shop single has sales in excess 60\,000 alone\, and his track Big Boss has garnered over 7.5 million hits on YouTube (closer to 8.5 million if you take into account the countless unofficial videos)\, his youtube channel has enjoyed a staggering 31 million views\, and his Circus records mixtape has been downloaded over 20 thousand times. It is fair to say that these numbers speak for themselves; Doctor P is a force to be reckoned with.\nThree years after emerging as one of the heavy hitters of the Dubstep movement\, with a catalogue of groundbreaking tracks and countless accomplishments\, Doctor P released the single\, “Galaxies and Stars” \, from the EP “Animal\, Mineral\, Vegetable” which had the equally brilliant “Bullet Proof” which was collaboration with the awesome singer Eva Simons and was released late 2012 on Circus/Atlantic records.\n“Galaxies and Stars” is a typical Doctor P buzz track\, having found airtime on Fearne Cottonʼs Radio 1 show and Mistajam on 1Xtra\, it has already become another legendary track for the prolific DJ.\nLocal openers will be announced soon.\nDETAILS: WHERE: WHEN: LOUNGE: HALL: SHOW: PRICES:\nThe Republik\, 1349 Kapiolani Blvd 3rd Floor\, Honolulu\, HI 96814 Sunday\, December 31\, 2017\n 8:00 pm (21 and up)\n 9:00 pm (18 and up)\n 9:00 pm (18 and up)\n$20 – $30 General Admission plus applicable fees

Making the celebration extra special this year\, the host of HBO’s Real Time will welcome actor and Grammy-nominated standup comedian Bob Saget (Full House\, Americas Funniest Home Videos) to the party for the first time. After sold-out shows for the past six years\, Maher continues to make good on his promise to be the “Don Ho of New Year’s.” \nConcert promoter Rick Bartalini Presents will honor the residents of Hawaii with an exclusive Kama’aina pre-sale so that local residents may purchase the best seats first. Starting Monday\, October 9th at 10:00 A.M.\, Hawaii residents can use pre-sale code ITMFA to get early access to tickets before they go on sale to mainland customers. Hawaii residents may purchase up to eight tickets each. Pre-sale is on-line only and runs until Thursday\, October 12th at 10:00 P.M. HST. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Friday\, October 13th at 10:00 A.M. \nFor over 20 years\, Maher\, who began his career as a stand-up comedian and still performs sold-out dates across the country\, has never held back and set the boundaries of where funny and political talk can go on American television. First on Politically Incorrect (Comedy Central\, ABC\, 1993-2002) and for the last 10 years on HBO’s Real Time\, Maher’s combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs has earned him 34 Emmy nominations; winning his first in 2014 as the Executive Producer for HBO’s Vice. In 2008\, he wrote and starred in Religulous directed by Larry Charles (Borat). The documentary about religions around the world went on to become the eighth highest grossing documentary ever. \nAdding to this New Year’s extravaganza\, Bob Saget has starred in many successful television shows\, including two of the most family-friendly shows network TV has ever produced (Full House and Americas Funniest Home Videos) but he’s also an out of his mind\, Grammy-nominated standup comedian for over thirty years. From his HBO special That Ain’t Right to his scene-stealing cameos in Entourage\, and The Aristocrats\, it’s always effective as Saget embraces his dark side. \nFans can expect the unexpected when it comes to Maher’s New Year’s extravaganza. In 2013\, Academy Award-winner Sean Penn and Director Michael Moore made a surprise appearance to introduce Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder\, who wowed the crowd with a surprise acoustic set. In 2015\, David Spade and Jeff Ross added to the hysteria followed up by Margaret Cho and David Cross last year. No matter what happens\, one thing is for certain: The Islands are the place to be to welcome in 2018. \n“I think everybody wants to be in Hawaii in December\,” Maher said. “That was my plan all year; get my ass booked there for New Year’s!”

SUMMARY:Make Your Own Transverse Flute
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn how to make your own transverse flute? \nWhen: Thursday\, Dec. 28th\, 2017\nTime: 4:30 pm- 7:30 pm\nWhere: Molokai Arts Center\nFee: $24 for current MAC members\, $30 for non members \nLearn to build a transverse flute out of PVC \nThe flute is one of the world’s oldest musical instruments\, made by humans as early as the Stone Age out of bamboo\, reeds\, ceramic and hollow bones. There are many different styles of flute made and mastered by cultures all over the world\, from clay ocarinas in South and Central America\, to bamboo shakuhachi in Japan\, to the metal transverse flutes most of us are familiar with in the Western symphony. Early Hawaiians had a version\, still used today\, called ‘ohe hano ihu\, which is blown with the nose. To make and play the flute is to connect with our earliest roots. \nThe Molokai Arts Center (MAC) will be hosting a class on making a playable transverse flute out of PVC pipe on Thursday\, December 28th from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. The workshop is open to teens and adults\, and participants will get to take home a completed flute they have made. It will be taught by Molokai born and raised hobbyist flute maker Ted Kanemitsu\, who has posted a video of playing one of his homemade flutes online\, viewable at https://youtu.be/bYvg5yQZ5nA. (The flute shown is a different kind than what will be made in the workshop.) The type of flute made at this workshop will be a transverse style (held horizontally)\, with six open finger holes and blown with the mouth. This configuration can play 2 octaves or more and in several keys. Flutes made of PVC pipe produce a surprisingly beautiful tone\, and have the benefit of being inexpensive to make. \nThe workshop is $24 for MAC Members/$30 for nonmembers. You can reserve your space in the class by going to http://www.molokaiartscenter.com and paying for it using the tab which says “Flute Making Workshop” on the homepage. Space is very limited\, so don’t delay. If you have questions\, email molokaiartscenter@gmail.com. \nNote: the workshop also includes making the flute stand to go with your flute!
