SUMMARY:Goldenvoice & Bamp Project Presents: Norah Jones
DESCRIPTION:Goldenvoice & Bamp Project Presents Norah Jones\nAt Hawaii Theatre Center\nApril 26th\, 2017\nDoors open at 7:00pm \nTickets available to the General Public Thursday\, December 15th at 10:00am at:\nHawaiiTheatre.com\, BampProject.com\, Hawaii Theatre Box Office\,\nBy phone at 808.528.0506. \nNorah Jones first emerged on the world stage with the February 2002 release of Come Away With Me\, her self-described “moody little record” that introduced a singular new voice and grew into a global phenomenon\, sweeping the 2003 Grammy Awards and signaling a paradigm shift away from the prevailing pop music of the time. Since then\, Norah has sold over 45 million albums worldwide and become a 9-time Grammy-winner. She has released a series of critically acclaimed and commercially successful solo albums—Feels Like Home (2004)\, Not Too Late (2007)\, The Fall (2009)\, and Little Broken Hearts (2012)—as well as albums with her collective bands The Little Willies and Puss N Boots. \nNow Norah has come full circle with Day Breaks\, a remarkable new album that finds her returning to her jazz roots while also proving her to be this era’s quintessential American artist\, the purveyor of an unmistakably unique sound that weaves together the threads of several bedrock styles of American music: country\, folk\, rock\, soul\, jazz. Day Breaks is a kindred spirit to Come Away With Me\, though it is unquestionably the work of a mature artist who has lived life and grown immensely in her craft. Day Breaks is a set of 9 originals written or co-written by Norah with collaborators Sarah Oda and Pete Remm whose themes range from love in all its guises to the socio-political\, as well as 3 covers of songs by Horace Silver (“Peace”)\, Duke Ellington (“Fleurette Africaine”) and Neil Young (“Don’t Be Denied”).

SUMMARY:Beginning Charleston
DESCRIPTION:The Charleston is a dance named for the harbor city of Charleston\, South Carolina. The rhythm was popularized in mainstream dance music in the United States by a 1923 tune called “The Charleston” by composer/pianist James P. Johnson which originated in the Broadway show Runnin' Wild and became one of the most popular hits of the decade. Runnin' Wild ran from 29 October 1923 through 28 June 1924. The peak year for the Charleston as a dance by the public was mid-1926 to 1927.

SUMMARY:HOT Tuesday - Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffman
DESCRIPTION:Join HOT for an exciting final evening of Jacques Offenbach's fanciful The Tales of Hoffman\, directed by HOT Artistic Director Henry Akina. \nStart the evening with a pau-hana party at the Honolulu Club (with pupus\, drinks\, & live music) followed by a night at the opera! \nThe Tales of Hoffmann takes place over a series of flashbacks\, as the famous German poet Hoffmann tells the story of his three great failed romances at a bar\, ruining his fourth great romance in the process. Each woman represents a part of the whole that he is seeking: Olympia\, the beautiful doll\, Antonia\, the singer and Giulietta\, the courtesan. As his current love\, the prima donna Stella\, abandons him in despair\, Hoffmann once more dedicates himself to his true love: poetry. \nDirected by HOT Artistic Director\, Henry Akina\, who celebrates his 20th Season with the company. Mr. Akina is joined by Maestro Vincent de Kort. The pair last led HOT’s acclaimed production of Siren Song (2015). \nSingle tickets on sale September 1.

SUMMARY:Machine Sewing : Fish Bags
DESCRIPTION:Children and parents celebrate Children’s Day on May 5th in Japan. Originally\, May 5th was Boy’s Day when proud parents flew fish flags above their homes to show off the number of sons within that household. Today parents continue to fly fish flags to represent sons and/or all children within the house. To celebrate this fun tradition we will be sewing fun fish bags that can be used at the beach or anywhere. This will likely require two classes to finish. \nRequires basic hand sewing & sewing machine knowledge. Children must be assisted by a parent or guardian. \nAppropriate for ages: 12+ Keiki to Kapuna. Class restricted to 10 participants. RSVP REQUIRED.
