SUMMARY:Makana
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 11\, at 2PM and 7PM Kahilu Theatre presents the internationally acclaimed guitarist\, singer and composer Makana. \nMakana is considered to be one of the greatest living players of the rare and complex art of slack key guitar. A protégé of the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar legends\, including Bobby Moderow Jr. and the late master Uncle Sonny Chillingworth\, Makana is perpetuating and evolving the art of slack key to new frontiers. His “Slack Rock” style infuses the traditional slack key sound with elements of bluegrass\, rock\, blues and raga and his playing has garnered critical acclaim. Guitar Player Magazine ranked him as one of the top 3 guitarists in America\, and the Hawai’i Academy of Recording Arts recently gave him the Slack Key Guitar Legacy Award. \nHe has been featured on three Grammy-nominated albums\, including the soundtrack for the Academy-Award winning film The Descendants. Makana has opened for numerous legends including Sting\, Elvis Costello\, and Santana and he has performed at the White House as well as opera houses from Europe to Asia. \nIn 2015\, Makana played to two sold-out houses at Kahilu with his creation of tribute show A Tribute to Sonny Chillingworth. \nMakana delivers sizzling showmanship and deep comfort on stage and is sure to wow concertgoers on February 11. \nDoors open at 1PM and 6PM for the performances and there will be beverages and snacks available for sale at the Kahilu Theatre bar. The Voyager Exhibit will be on display in the Kahilu Theatre galleries. \nTickets are $68 / $58 / $48 / $20 and available for purchase online at http://www.kahilutheatre.org\, by calling (808) 885-6868\, or at the Kahilu Theatre Box Office at 67-1186 Lindsey Road\, Kamuela\, HI 96743\, Monday – Friday\, from 9am to 1pm. \nThese performances are made possible by generous sponsorship from Charlie & Lisa Anderson\, Cathi Keene\, Owo’s Farm\, Frank Snow\, and by Kona Brewing Co.\, and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

SUMMARY:Celebrating the Love
DESCRIPTION:20 Hour Thai Bodywork Training\nCelebrating the Love Workshop \nSaturday February 11\, 1-3:45\n$45 per person \nThe deeper history of Valentines Day dates back to the crazy Pagen days. It was called Lupercalia named after the Pagen God Pan aka Lupercus who was known to be a wildly horny fellow who was half goat and half man. Today we celebrate this day much differently with a hallmark card some flowers and chocolate. \nIn this workshop we will put all these weird tradition behind and just do some plain old non-sexual cuddling. Drawing on the age old techniques of thai massage\, yoga and yes of course snuggling we will connect and practice loving ourselves and one another. \nFeel free to bring a lover\, a friend or your mother. No partner necessary to attend.

SUMMARY:Celebrating the Love
DESCRIPTION:Saturday February 11\, 1-3:45\n$45 per person \nThe deeper history of Valentines Day dates back to the crazy Pagen days. It was called\nLupercalia named after the Pagen God Pan aka Lupercus who was known to be a wildly\nhorny fellow who was half goat and half man. Today we celebrate this day much\ndifferently with a hallmark card some flowers and chocolate.\nIn this workshop we will put all these weird tradition behind and just do some plain old\nnon-sexual cuddling. Drawing on the age old techniques of thai massage\, yoga and yes\nof course snuggling we will connect and practice loving ourselves and one another. \nFeel free to bring a lover\, a friend or your mother. No partner necessary to attend.

SUMMARY:HPAF Presents Jake Shimabukuro!
DESCRIPTION:Hawai'i Performing Arts Festival will present ukulele phenomenon Jake Shimabukuro in concert Friday\, February 10\, at Mauna Lani Bay Resort and Bungalows\, with the Not-So-Silent Auction beginning at 5:30\, followed by the concert at 7:30. Proceeds from this annual fundraising event go toward scholarships for young artists and the upcoming HPAF summer festival in July. \nRolling Stone has declared Jake Shimabukuro a “musical hero.” The fiercely talented musician has collaborated with a wide array of artists\, including Yo-Yo Ma\, Jimmy Buffett\, Bette Midler\, Ziggy Marley\, Bela Fleck and Lyle Lovett\, as well as orchestras and festivals around the world. \nShimabukuro's wide ranging repertoire includes While My Guitar Gently Weeps\, Bohemian Rhapsody\, Hallelujah and Nessun Dorma\, as well as selections from his new CD\, “Nashville Sessions\,” which is regarded as one of the ukulele wizard's most adventurous and multifaceted recordings yet. At the suggestion of his manager\, Jake went into a Nashville studio to jam with two top Nashville session players. “At first I was hesitant\,” Shimabukuro admits. “We're just going to go in and jam? Really? With nothing prepared? I never dreamed we would leave the studio six days later with a full album.” \n “I always try to maintain a balance of traditional music with the edgier modern sounding pieces. Every show is a little different\, which keeps things fresh and exciting. The most important thing is everyone has a great time and walks away with a smile.” \nHawai'i Performing Arts Festival is an internationally renowned classical music training and performance program based in Kamuela\, now preparing for its 13th annual summer festival with live performances throughout the month of July\, 2017. More than 30 concerts will be presented\, several of them free\, at venues around Hawaii Island and on Oahu. \nSponsors for the February 10th event are Monk's Delight Kona Coffee\, the Kent-Meschke Ohana and Mauna Lani Bay Resort and Bungalows. Tickets are available at http://www.HawaiiPerformingArtsFestival.org or by calling 808-333-7378.
