SUMMARY:BAMP Project Presents Halsey
DESCRIPTION:BAMP Project presents Halsey performing live in Honolulu at the Republik\, Saturday\, January 23rd\, 2016. Tickets will go on sale Friday\, October 9th at 9:00am at all the locations listed below. This is an All Ages accompanied by an Adult event. \nHalsey: a better combination of lovable pop and provocative grunge could not have been better engineered in a lab. The alter ego of 19-year-old Ashley Frangipane was conceived from the “Halsey” stop on the L train to Brooklyn (and is an anagram of her first name) — appropriately so\, having been born in New Jersey\, but defined by the city of New York. Halsey seeks to combine honest\, unashamed\, and androgynous lyrics with the sugary feminine allure of pop music. Biracial and shaped by the discography of a black father and a white mother\, she brings a sense of diversity and a realness to the pop idiom. Her sound is hook-bait-catchy\, and unapologetic in nature. “Ghost\,” her lead single\,” is a perfect example: She plays no victim\, instead exploiting the tragic and laughable intimacy of human relationships. Signed to Astralwerks/Capitol\, Halsey has all the undeniable makings of a pop star\, with a bitter aftertaste that is so tongue-in-cheek. \nAn opening act will be announced soon. \nDetails on the Show:\nWhere: The Republik\, 1349 Kapiolani Blvd 3rd Floor\, Honolulu\, HI 96814\nWhen: Saturday\, January 23rd\, 2016\nLounge Doors: 6:00pm (21 and up)\nHall Doors: 7:00pm (All Ages accompanied by an Adult)\nShow: 8:00pm (All Ages accompanied by an Adult)\nPrices: $35.00 in advance plus applicable fees\, increase day of the show plus applicable fees \nTickets available Friday\, October 9th at 9:00am at:\nBampproject.com / Jointherepublik.com / Flavorus.com / Local Motion Stores / Navy/Hickam ITT Offices / Army LTS Offices / UH Campus Center / The Safehouse (the Lounge within The Republik) Tuesday thru Saturday 6:00pm until 1:00am with a $2.00 per ticket Service Fee / The Republik Box Office Tuesday thru Friday 10:00 am until 6:00 pm with a $2.00 per ticket Service Fee \nIf you’re not familiar with Halsey please visit http://iamhalsey.com/

SUMMARY:Kanikapila in Kailua FREE concert featuring The Waimanalo Sunset Band
DESCRIPTION:Hawaiian music is alive and well in Kailua\, mahalo to Kawika Kahiapo\, Charlani Kalama\, Castle Foundation and A & B! Check out FREE concert in the parking deck near Pier 1 Kailua. We provide chairs\, music and aloha! Just kick back and enjoy the sweet Hawaiian music provided this month by The Waimanalo Sunset Band. Spread the word! \nAbout the band:\nWinners of the 2015 Kani Ka Pila Grille Talent Search\, the Waimānalo Sunset Band came to life in 2001. Originating band members Lanakila Makua\, Keliʻi Makua\, and Keao Kamalani regularly came together in the backyard of the Makua ʻohana home in Waimānalo as the sun began to set over the Ko’olau Mountains. It was through those simple jam sessions where the melodies began to flow and the music began to blend. \nThe intricacies of the music of the Sons of Hawaiʻi formed the foundation for the Waimānalo Sunset Band’s sound. Entertaining at an ʻohana anniversary pāʻina gave birth to the band’s exposure beyond the backyard. Before the year was over\, they were asked to play at several family lūʻau\, and quickly earned a regular spot at The Willows restaurant in Mōʻiliʻili. The band also played at the 2007 Aloha Festivals’ Waikīkī Ho’olaule’a\, performed at many other local venues\, and played the Legends of Hawaiian Music annual fundraiser from 2009-2012. Never forgetting their humble beginnings\, giving back by supporting fundraisers continues to be at the heart of the Waimānalo Sunset Band. \nFounding members Lanakila Makua\, Keliʻi Makua\, and Keao Kamalani eventually expanded their group to include Chris “Baba” Yim and Manuwai Mejia (‘ukulele and vocals). \nA little more about the band members:\nBrothers Lanakila and Keliʻi Makua were born and raised on the homesteads of Waimānalo. They each grew up playing the ‘ukulele and later moved on to learn the guitar and electric bass while attending Kamehameha Schools. As Lanakila favored the guitar\, Keliʻi took to the bass\, which led to him designing his own pākini bass. Both Lanakila and Keliʻi are full time teachers at Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻO Ānuenue. \nKeao Kamalani\, another graduate of Kamehameha Schools\, became an avid guitar player in high school. Ranging from rock and roll to reggae to Hawaiian music\, Keaoʻs passion for the Sons of Hawaiʻi brought a shared common interest to the brothers Makua. His talent on the guitar provides a solid rhythm to complete the group’s sound. Keao is a fulltime teacher at Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻO Ānuenue. \nChris “Baba” Yim joined the Waimanalo Sunset Band in 2008. In addition to his connection to traditional Hawaiian music\, Baba brought the group an expanded sound. Taking lead on many contemporary selections\, the addition of Baba’s talents offers a melodic sound that promotes the group’s diversity. Baba is also a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and is a Vice Principal at Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻO Ānuenue. \nManuwai Mejia\, a graduate of St. Louis School\, started as a “go to” member of the Waimānalo Sunset Band since 2006. Manuwai started as a stand in bass\, ʻukulele and guitar player for the band. His versatility with multiple instruments made him an invaluable addition to the band. Manuwai is a Fire Captain with the Honolulu Fire Department and a substitute teacher at Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻO Ānuenue. \nWith families and fulltime careers\, the Waimānalo Sunset Band continues to express their aloha for being Hawaiian through their music. The melodic combination of any or all of these band members is special. It is through their shared vision as kumu at Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻO Ānuenue that their passion for the Hawaiian language\, culture\, and old time Hawaiian music creates a unique flavor not often found among the bands of today.

SUMMARY:BAMP Project Presents Toro Y Moi
DESCRIPTION:BAMP Project presents Toro Y Moi performing live in Honolulu at the Republik\, Friday\, January 22nd\, 2016. Tickets on sale Friday\, November 13th at 9:00am at all the locations listed below. This is an All Ages accompanied by an Adult event. \nOpening to the scream of F1’s speeding around a racetrack\, and maintain that intensity with booming guitar riffs and psychedelic effects throughout\, the forthcoming album from Toro Y Moi is definitely making a statement. Or maybe a few statements. But Chaz Bundick\, the frontman and songwriter\, is leaving it up to you to figure out what they are. While it is obvious that each song is crafted around a personally meaningful experience\, Chaz seems to purposefully leave the lyrics just vague enough to let each listener mold it into something unique. Chaz presents you with a few themes: love\, beauty\, nature; and gently lets go of your hand so you can wander off on your own.\nA feeling of searching for something threads its way through every song on the album\, which is aptly named What For? It feels contradictory in a very human way\, like Chaz is swinging between waiting for something and not being able to wait anymore. But the swinging isn’t panicked or frustrated\, it’s just a situation that he’s reflecting on. The songs are heavy with nostalgia\, too\, for simpler times\, better music\, more fulfilling relationships. Chaz references Weezer to warn you that “there is no one to destroy your sweater” and\, in another song\, recalls Big Star to declare that “rock and roll is here to stay.” It feels like he misses everything (even things he wasn’t around for yet)\, but is somehow excited for what comes next. \nWhat For? Is a glimpse into the life of a guy trying to figure out what it all means. The music is influenced by bands like Big Star\, Talking Heads\, Tim Maia\, Todd Rundgren\, but it doesn’t quite sound like any of them in particular. And it isn’t trying to. It has that special something that Chaz imbues in every Toro Y Moi album\, his personal filter on the world he experiences. So whatever message you take from the album\, don’t forget that it’s good. As Chaz himself so candidly believes\, “Good is good. Good finds its own audience.” \nAn opening act will be announced soon. \nDetails on the Show:\nWhere: The Republik\, 1349 Kapiolani Blvd 3rd Floor\, Honolulu\, HI 96814\nWhen: Friday\, January 22nd\, 2016\nLounge Doors: 6:00pm (21 and up)\nHall Doors: 7:00pm (All Ages accompanied by an Adult)\nShow: 8:00pm (All Ages accompanied by an Adult)\nPrices: $27.50 in advance plus applicable fees\, increase day of the show plus applicable fees \nTickets available Friday\, November 13th at 9:00am at:\nBampproject.com / Jointherepublik.com / Flavorus.com / Local Motion Stores / Navy/Hickam ITT Offices / Army LTS Offices / UH Campus Center / The Safehouse (the Lounge within The Republik) Tuesday thru Saturday 6:00pm until 1:00am with a $2.00 per ticket Service Fee / The Republik Box Office Tuesday thru Friday 10:00 am until 6:00 pm with a $2.00 per ticket Service Fee \nIf you’re not familiar with Toro Y Moi please visit http://toroymoi.com/songs/
