Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver. \nSponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i\, Hawai'i State Federal Credit Union\, Meadow Gold Dairies\, Hawaiian Electric Companies\, HMS Host\, Hansen Distribution Group\, Roberts Hawaii\, Mitsunaga & Associates\, Aloha United Way\, and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. DESCRIPTION:IN CELEBRATION OF THE 2017 SUMMER READING PROGRAM \nThe Hawaiian Serenaders\, Richard Tom and Mele Fong\, will share information about the ‘ukulele\, Hawaii’s official instrument. Learn the history\, types\, parts\, and tuning the instrument\, and how playing the ‘ukulele has evolved from rhythm accompaniment to a solo instrument. The husband and wife duo will also demonstrate how applying different rhythm patterns affect the feel of a song. Discover the stories behind the songs as you enjoy a musical mixed plate of Hawaiian\, hapa haole\, pop and jazz standards. This 45-minute program is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver. \nSponsored by the Maui Friends of the Library. This is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding and support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts\, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts\, and the University of Hawaii. \nProgram schedule is subject to change.
