DESCRIPTION:The Kailua-Kona Public Library will celebrate its 25th Anniversary from Feb. 22 – Mar. 2. Everyone is invited to join in the celebration at 75-138 Hualalai Rd.  \n“The Kailua-Kona Public Library began serving patrons in 1972\,” said Branch Manager Denise Stromberg.  “After four moves in 20 years\, the library finally settled into its permanent home when the new 10\,500 square foot building was completed and opened in a leap year – on Feb. 29\, 1992.  Our branch is the second largest and second busiest library on the Big Island.  We are proud to offer a variety of materials\, quality programs\, and great services to the diverse population of the Kona community.” \nRetired librarian Irene Horvath\, who opened the new library\, said\, “The community was so happy to finally have a new library building with access to expanded services and collections.  Their patience was certainly rewarded!”  \nThe library will highlight these Hawaii State Public Library System digital resources at 2 p.m. on the following days. DESCRIPTION:Come listen to scientist\, Kylla Benes\, from the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) read from a fun collection of aquatic science stories. Ms. Benes is part of a group of visiting researchers excited to reach out to young science enthusiasts while attending the ASLO conference that is taking place here in Honolulu. \nThe ASLO Storytellers Program enables scientists to visit and interact with local communities through the public library system during their annual conferences. It is a wonderful opportunity for scientists and community members to interact and exchange ideas. \nASLO is committed to engaging with the next generation of thinkers\, teachers\, and leaders by providing a chance for them to meet an aquatic scientist\, learn a little bit about what ASLO does and why it matters. This program is geared toward a preschool aged audience. \nProgram schedule is subject to change. SUMMARY:Beginning Charleston
DESCRIPTION:The Charleston is a dance named for the harbor city of Charleston\, South Carolina. The rhythm was popularized in mainstream dance music in the United States by a 1923 tune called “The Charleston” by composer/pianist James P. Johnson which originated in the Broadway show Runnin' Wild and became one of the most popular hits of the decade. Runnin' Wild ran from 29 October 1923 through 28 June 1924. The peak year for the Charleston as a dance by the public was mid-1926 to 1927.
