Discover the myriad benefits of eating a locally grown diet and how to eat more locally. \nSpace is limited\, please register by emailing:\nplantaloha@hawaiiansanctuary.com \nThis class is part of the Plant Aloha Permaculture Series facilitated by Wade Bauer. \nThe goal is to teach local residents how to efficiently grow their own food at home to provide a fresh organic balanced diet. From field or backyard to table all the crops necessary are covered including their propagation\, cultivation\, harvest\, preservation\, and use. Permaculture tools and techniques focus on easy and practical ways to create food abundance at home. Every class is a blend of practical theory and hands on projects. Occasionally\, free plant starts will be available. \nLocally\, this series will help increase food security and resiliency to natural disaster in Hawaii by relocalizing and diversifying our food supply. Globally\, this series also helps reduce transportation of food\, which will decrease carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. Culturally\, these classes cover polynesian and pacific island crops and farming methods\, which help preserve traditional Hawaiian horticultural practices. Plants from around the world that are already in use in Hawaii\, will be highlighted\, showcasing the multicultural heritage that makes present day Hawaii and our grinds unique and ono-licious. \nEach class starts promptly with a lecture and Q&A before hands-on farm learning ~ Come prepared with notepad and writing utensil\, closed toed shoes\, sun hat\, and gloves. \nPermaculture Series Facilitator\nWade Bauer has taught Permaculture for over 13 years\, with 10 years in Hawaii. He has a B.S. in Environmental Biology and is the founder of Malama Aina Permaculture: Edible Landscape Design\, Education\, and Nursery. SUMMARY:Jivamukti Yoga Series
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays Jan 12th to Feb 9th\n10:30-11:45am 5 weeks series\n$15 for drop in or 5 series for $60 \nAn internationally-recognized form of hatha yoga\, Jivamukti Yoga is founded on five tenets—ahimsa (non-violence)\, bhakti(devotion)\, nada (music)\, shastra(scripture) and dhyana (meditation). The method emphasizes enlightenment or Self-realization as the goal of the practice\, hence the name Jivamukti\, which is a derivation of the Sanskrit word jivanmuktih\, meaning “liberation while living.” It centers on the importance of establishing an elevated—i.e.\, selfless—intention as the motivation for one's practice. Jivamukti is an integrated method\, incorporating elements of raja yoga (ethical\, physical\, breathing and meditative practices)\, bhakti yoga (devotional practices)\, karma yoga (practices of selfless service) and jñana yoga (intellectual and meditative practices). In the state of enlightenment\, one realizes the oneness or interconnectedness of all being; hence\, Jivamukti emphasizes the importance of veganism\, environmentalism and political activism as key practices toward the goal. Jivamukti Yoga teachers are trained in a demanding program that covers these practices\, as well as the traditional subjects such as asana practice and yoga philosophy. Jivamukti Yoga classes are rigorous\, and the goal of the practice—enlightenment—is remembered throughout by the teacher and student alike.

SUMMARY:Bamp Project Presents: Young The Giant January 12th & January 13
DESCRIPTION:Bamp Project Presents: Young The Giant\nJanuary 12th and January 13th at The Republik. \nTickets will go on sale\, Friday\, December 2nd.\n$35.00 General Admission plus applicable fees\, increase day of the show plus applicable fees \nThis is an all ages accompanied by an adult event on Oahu. \nSince the band's 2010 inception\, Young the Giant has made a name for itself in rock as the “thinking man's band\,” winning over fans\, radio\, and press with their incendiary live shows\, strong musicianship\, and poignant lyrics. The band's 2010 self-titled debut\, which reached No. 6 on the Rock and Alternative album charts\, featured the RIAA Gold-certified hits\, “Cough Syrup” and “My Body\,” which peaked at No. 2 and No. 4\, respectively on Al-ternative Radio. The band's sophomore release 2014's Mind Over Matter hit No. 7 on The Billboard 200 and spawned the hits\, “It's About Time\,” which reached No. 2 on the Alter-native Radio chart and the title track\, which hit No. 15. \nEven with chart successes\, critical praise (Rolling Stone\, Billboard)\, coveted television ap-pearances (The Late Show with David Letterman\, MTV Video Music Awards)\, and high pro-file festivals (Lollapalooza\, Bonnaroo)\, Young the Giant still feel like they have a lot more to do and\, more important\, a lot more to say as a band. \n“We have a platform and we have our own beliefs\, but at the same time\, what's amazing about songwriting\, music\, or literature is that it brings people together and it shows peo-ple that everyone has the same problems and wants the same thing. This record is really a call to consciousness to really understand our predicament\,” adds Gadhia. \nThere comes a time in a young band's life when they hit that sweet spot where their voice\, their sound\, and their unity as a band gel perfectly. For Los Angeles-based indie rockers Young the Giant\, that time is now. This trifecta of musical magic manifests itself on the band's third album\, Home of the Strange\, on Fueled by Ramen. \nTickets are available at:\nBampProject.com
