DESCRIPTION:The Hawaii State Library is honoring the anniversary of the December 7\, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor with a number of special exhibits.  Learn the story of the attack from those who witnessed\, remembered\, and wrote\, with an exhibit featuring snippets from the many memoirs and personal histories written about the precarious time.  Experience the attack through a display of the original news reports from the day when citizens realized “This was no drill!” \nBoth exhibits are accompanied by World War II era artifacts and photographs thanks to a partnership with Home of the Brave Museum and other lenders. \nThe exhibits and artifacts will be on view in the library’s First Floor Reading Room though the end of December\, during normal library hours.

SUMMARY:Hanafuda-Hawai'i Style
DESCRIPTION:Author Helen Nakano will share stories and instructions for playing Hanafuda Nā Pua Hawaiʻi\, the Hawaiʻi version of the traditional Japanese card game.  This beautiful and unique set of hanafuda cards uses native Hawaiian plants and animals for all suits.  The images in this new set are aimed to inspire learning about the plants\, animals\, and culture that make Hawaiʻi special. \nThis program is open to teens and adults and registration is requested.  Register for this program by calling 693.7050 during business hours and ask for the Young Adult Reference Desk.  Hanafuda products will be available for purchase after the event and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Friends of the Library Kapolei. \nProgram schedule is subject to change. The first show is at 6:30 PM and the second show is at 10:00 PM.
