SUMMARY:Great American Cleanup Maui County part 3
DESCRIPTION:Mālama Maui Nui’s goal for this year’s local Great American Cleanup campaign (March 19- April 30) is to inspire and empower individuals and community groups to remove litter and debris from shorelines\, waterways\, roads\, and other public spaces. \nGreat American Cleanup volunteers are motivated by the notion that litter-free places allow for an ecosystem’s natural beauty to shine. Native species of plants and animals can thrive in healthy habitats\, and people can experience first-hand the richness of Hawai‘i’s pristine environment. \nIt is essential to engage the people who live in each community within Maui County to take the lead on how to care for the land where they live\, work\, and play. The residents of each area know it best\, and they have the potential to create the greatest impact on their community’s environmental health\, which directly influences our overall quality of life. \nThis year’s theme\, “Clean Your Block Party”\, emphasizes the power of the collaborative effort\, and how a group of individuals—of any age\, background\, or ability—can have a positive impact by taking action wherever they see a need. \nJoin us March 19 for the GAC Kickoff\, and be inspired to organize a Great American Cleanup of your own! Check out the GAC Coordinator Toolkit at MalamaMauiNui.org\, with best practices and activity ideas designed to help anyone conduct a Great American Cleanup event in their neighborhood.

SUMMARY:Poetry and Music Concert
DESCRIPTION:Born in Pittsburgh in 1957\, Michele Dalton is a self-taught poet\, actor\, singer\, writer\, and coordinator of events. He began writing at age 12. Separating from society\, Michele lived in an abandoned house in West Philadelphia: there was no electricity\, no running water\, plastic for windows\, candles for light\, and a fire place for heat. For two and a half years\, he wrote and rehearsed what is now his core body of works called the “Wind Spirit Movement”: a combination of spoken word poetry with and without music\, vocal songs with and without music\, monologues\, and short stories. After leaving the house\, he began creating his own concerts everywhere and anywhere he could throughout the United States and abroad. \nProgram is free and is suitable for all ages. Program schedule is subject to change. Please contact the hosting library 10 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if other special accommodation is needed: 933-8890.
