Vinyasa is the application of the breathing/movement system. Tristhanam is the three-part technique of breath/bandhas\, gazing\, and asana that is implemented throughout practice and is the ground for transformation. Our workshop begins with an in-depth talk on these integral supports followed by a led primary class emphasizing these techniques.\n2.0 hours \n Bring your breakfast! In discussion\, we will illuminate the meaning of these sutras and deepen our understanding of Yoga\, mind\, and practice.\nPattabhi Jois chanted and shared from the Sutras so often that I was determined to study it so I could better understand him and as well as share his teachings.\n1.5 hours \nKimberly Flynn (Kiki) \nMy yoga studies started in 1982 and in 1993 I began my studies with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in his groundbreaking classes in New York City. In 1995 I took the first of a dozen trips to study with him at AYRI in Mysore. My first glimpse into the tiny back shala of his Lakshmi Puram home left an indelible impression. Daily I was overwhelmed by the generosity of his teaching in both his early morning classes as well as his daily afternoon conferences. 15 years ago Guruji sent me off to learn Sanskrit chanting and since that time I have also been a student of Dr. M.A. Jayashree. \n1n 1996 I opened Ashtanga Yoga Shala in Los Angeles where I twice hosted Pattabhi Jois. From 2005-2008 I lived and taught in Pahoa at Nicole’s Pahoa Shala as well as in Asia and Europe. In 2008 I returned to New York City where I now teach workshops and teacher trainings locally and globally. In addition to teaching high profile clients like Madonna and Miley Cyrus\, I create yoga programming for Spinal Cord Injury\, MS and other therapeutic applications. DESCRIPTION:Vera Arita\, Chris Caravalho\, Sue Cowing\, Scott Goto and James Rumford from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) will present “The Art of Creating Children’s Books”  \nThis free two-hour program for beginners will present basic information on how to get started: including becoming familiar with conventions in the field of children’s literature\, knowing how children’s books are evaluated\, the importance of reading good quality examples of the same genre you wish to create\, how and why you need to do research\, steps involved in writing and revising your own work\, getting feedback\, and differences between copy editing and content editing as part of the publishing process. The program will be presented in three parts: writing picture books\, writing chapter books for early readers or novels for middle grade children and young adults\, and illustrating\, since the creative\, editing and submission process is quite different for each category. \nSCBWI is the only professional association dedicated to serving the people who write and/or illustrate children’s literature. \nPresented by the Hawaii chapter of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators. DESCRIPTION:On Feb. 27\, 2016\, join HOT for Great Singers\, Great Songs featuring Members of the Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio.   \nFounded by HOT Artistic Director Henry Akina (who directed this season's stunning production of A Midsummer Night's Dream)\, the Orvis Opera Studio is a part of HOT's award-winning Education program and has a history of cultivating talented young\, performers as they continue their development. Members receive training from world-class coaches and teachers who have gone on to work with opera companies around the world.  This event is a culmination of a recent series of workshops & classes and will feature select singers from the Studio.  \nGreat Singers\, Great Songs is a free event that will be held at the Sacred Hearts Academy Auditoreum.  The performance begins at 7:00pm.
