SUMMARY:Aloha ‘Āina: Stories from the Frontlines of Culture\, Conservation and Community Activitism
DESCRIPTION:Since the 1970s and his work with other Hawaiian leaders like Charlie Maxwell and George Helm to save Kaho‘olawe from ongoing destruction\, Walter Ritte has championed environmental and cultural protection efforts across Hawai‘i. Few among us have had greater impact on our ‘āina and our community. His activitism always engages many communities and grounds itself in the Aloha ‘Āina taught to him in the early days of the Kaho‘olawe struggle by the kūpuna who led that effort. This will be a forum with Uncle Walter and the team from Hui o Kuapā who have led Aloha ‘Āina conservation activities in Hawai‘i over the last decade. From Kaho‘olawe\, to battles over water rights\, to struggles against land development like Lā‘au Point\, to the ongoing issues with GMOs\, Uncle Walter Ritte and those closest to him will tell the front line stories and talk about the behind the scene strategies\, including legal\, political and communication strategies\, that contributed to some of Hawai‘i's most important cultural and conservation victories. This will be a wholly unique opportunity to hear directly from and dialogue with some of these intergenerational cultural activists about their conservation work. All are welcome to attend\, as the panel hopes that from our lessons from past experiences\, current and future generations will deepen their appreciation for Aloha ‘Āina and understanding as to how to use this gift from our kūpuna to protect our Hawai‘i for future generations. I ka wā mamua\, ka wā mahope.

SUMMARY:BAMP Project Presents: Echosmith

The Sierota siblings — Sydney (vocals/keyboard)\, Jamie (vocals/guitar)\, Noah (vocals/bass)\, and Graham (drums) — are gearing up for an even bigger 2015 with new single “Bright\,” after 2014 solidified them as a truly breakout act with the success of “Cool Kids.” The certified platinum track dominated everywhere\, charting in the Top 5 at Hot AC\, Top 10 at Top 40\, and in the Top 10 of the iTunes singles chart\, plus Top 15 of Billboard’s “Hot 100”. The “Cool Kids” video has racked up over 30 million views on YouTube\, and the new “Bright” video is set to follow in its footsteps. \nThe Southern California-born quartet grew up in a musical household\, and shared a love for playing instruments and listening to bands as varied as Coldplay\, The Smiths\, U2\, Joy Division\, and Fleetwood Mac. Those influences have yielded the melody- minded\, New Wave-influenced sound of Talking Dreams\, which was produced by Mike Elizondo (Tegan & Sara\, Regina Spektor) and earned rave reviews. The band has been featured by the likes of Rolling Stone\, USA Today\, Billboard\, TeenVogue\, and ELLE\, who dubbed “Cool Kids” as “an ageless anthem.” In 2014\, Echosmith were named both an MTV “Artist to Watch” and a VH1 “You Oughta Know” Artist. They were a break-out band at SXSW\, where they performed at the MTV Woodie Awards\n(leading Entertainment Weekly to comment: “Of all the bands looking to make noise on the Woodies\, Echosmith seemed most ready to break out”). The band was featured on the fourth season of MTV’s hit series Awkward\, having their music showcased throughout and culminating with the band at the centerpiece of a storyline. \nIn the past two years\, Echosmith has toured with everyone from Owl City and Young The Giant to\nAmerican Authors\, in addition to their two Warped Tour runs. They are now out on their first\, full-scale headlining tour\, continuing to win over new converts to their sparkling songs and dynamic live shows. \nPrices: $25.00 Regular General Admission in Advance plus applicable fees\, increase day of the show plus applicable fees. \nTickets available at 9:00am April 17th at: \nBampproject.com / Jointherepublik.com / Flavorus.com / Local Motion Stores / Navy/Hickam ITT Offices / Army LTS Offices / UH Campus Center / About The Goods / The Safehouse (the Lounge within The Republik) Tuesday thru Saturday 6:00pm until 1:00am with a $2.00 Service Fee per ticket / The Republik Box Office Monday thru Friday 9:00am until 6:00pm with a $2.00 Service Fee per ticket \n*High-resolution photos and interviews upon request. \nMahalo to our sponsors: ROCKSTAR Energy Drink\, Bud Light and Wahoo’s Hawaii.

\nTickets available NOW at: \nBampproject.com / Jointherepublik.com / Flavorus.com / Local Motion Stores / Navy/Hickam ITT Offices / Army LTS Offices / UH Campus Center / About The Goods / The Safehouse (the Lounge within The Republik) Tuesday thru Saturday 6:00pm until 1:00am with a $2.00 Service Fee per ticket / The Republik Box Office Monday thru Friday 9:00am until 6:00pm with a $2.00 Service Fee per ticket \nMahalo to our sponsors: ROCKSTAR Energy Drink\, Bud Light and Wahoo’s Hawaii.
