SUMMARY:Litter Bugs Me 2015
DESCRIPTION:MMN’s next cleanup campaign is “Litter Bugs Me”\, which runs July 11 through 25. This is a concerted effort to keep trash off our highways\, roadways\, and shorelines. \nWith all that ground to cover\, we ask you to consider choosing a site near your neighborhood that needs some aloha. Invite your family\, friends\, and coworkers to participate in this litter pickup campaign and help the beauty of our home shine! \nRubbish not only looks bad on the road\, but it can also be dangerous–whether it takes flight\, lands as a hazard for drivers to avoid\, or makes its way to the ocean and becomes marine debris. On the flip side\, litter-free roadways and public spaces allow for full enjoyment of the pristine nature around us. \nLitter begets litter\, and likewise\, the effect of engaging the community to eradicate litter not only gets rid of the trash\, but also helps set a new social standard for preserving the beauty of the public spaces we value. The hope is that we move away from eradicating litter\, to preventing litter happening in the first place. And we need your direct community involvement to set the example! \nWe have the supplies you need to organize a cleanup; just give us a call at 877-2524 or send an email to volunteer@cwdhawaii.org to connect with Volunteer Coordinator Lauren Kennedy. \nAnd remember\, the early bird usually gets the worm–soin the same spirit\, we ask that you make your supplies request at least two weeks in advance. \nFor those of you who would like to make new friends as well as participate in a cleanup\, we will have a co-hosted volunteer event with Surfrider Foundation – Maui Chapter at Kanahā Beach Park on July 18 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. \nhttp://malamamauinui.org/event/litter-bugs-me-2015/ \nhttp://malamamauinui.org/event/july-beach-cleanup-at-kanaha-with-surfrider/

SUMMARY:MMN Baseyard Volunteer Workday
DESCRIPTION:Mālama Maui Nui administers several County-wide recycling programs that deal with household hazardous waste. These programs ensure that people have a safe place to properly dispose of their unwanted materials\, of which many can be repurposed into new and useful things! \nAs can be imagined\, it can take a significant amount of time — or many hands — to prepare them for the next step in their recycling journey. Thus\, we turn to our volunteers in the community to join us in this effort to keep Maui County beautiful! \nOur next Baseyard Volunteer Workday is on Saturday\, July 25 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the MMN Baseyard in Pu’unene. Volunteers will be helping out with our Household Batteries Recycling and Paint Exchange programs. \nContact us for more info on the tasks involved\, and to reserve your spot!
