For more information\, contact the Library's Young Adult Section at 586-3490. \nContest Rules: \nThe online contest starts at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday\, March 1\, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday\, March 7. Entrants are limited to Oahu residents\, ages 12 to 18. Teens under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or guardian in order to participate. Library staff are excluded from this contest. Your Instagram account must be made “public” at least through March 14. Participant must hashtag the photo with #TTW15HSL and follow @HSPLSHIgov on Instagram. The number of “Likes” will not determine the winner\, but judges may take popularity into account. Photos must be family-friendly and obey all laws\, including Instagram policies\, copyright and privacy. For your privacy\, take only partial facial photos of yourself and do not include others. If you take a photo with your library card\, please cover the barcode. By entering the contest\, you are giving the library permission to use the photo. One winner will receive a 16GB USB shark flash drive and must respond with their email address to receive the prize\, which will be announced at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday\, March 14 at the Hawaii State Library Teen Tech Week craft program. The second program in the series will feature KIPUKA and PAPAKILO\, two databases with land mapping data cross-referenced with historical and cultural information.  \nGuest presenters Kamoa Quitevis and Kale Hannahs from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs will demonstrate how to access these resources and share more about the importance of the community's input with the introduction of the “newly available participatory functionality which allows any user the opportunity to comment and update existing data as well as create entirely new data.”   \nThe first program in the series featured ‘Ulu ‘Ulu – Moving Image Archive while the final program will highlight Ulukau (Electronic Library) and Wehewehe (Hawaiian Dictionary) later in the month.

In June 2014\, the Hawaii Department of Agriculture approved and funded a research and development proposal titled “Predation by the Square-Necked Grain Beetle\, Cathartus quadricollis\, on Coffee Berry Borer (CBB). This project\, co-authored by UH-CTAHR’s coffee and orchard crop assistant extension agent\, Andrea Kawabata and United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service DKI PBARC’s research entomologist\, Dr. Peter Follett\, will be hosting an educational workshop in Ka’u called “An Introduction to Beetle Predators of Coffee Berry Borer (CBB) in Hawaii.” The goal of this workshop is to introduce growers to current research efforts of better understanding beetle predators of CBB found here in Hawaii.
